Joe Biden’s interview with Brian Williams on MSNBC this evening was a sad spectacle. Joe had trouble completing sentences, much less expressing a coherent line of thought. He repeatedly looked down at his notes and still couldn’t manage to organize his responses. Joe has long had tangled syntax and foot and mouth disease as a campaigner, but this looks more like evidence of the beginnings of dementia, I’m sorry to say.
This is a hard truth that Democrats have to face and soon. It’s a hard day when you have to take away Grandpa’s keys when he’s no longer safe to drive. I say this as someone who is over 70 himself.
If Joe struggles with softball questions from a friendly interviewer, how will he stand up to the rigors of a debate or protracted campaign against Donald Trump? Sanders lost primary elections to Biden with straw man unfunded campaigns with no state organization. He’s not an answer.
What solutions are there? Perhaps Biden needs to name a strong vice-president candidate and then withdraw in favor of them. Warren? Klobuchar? Whitmer? Abrams? Cuomo? Newsom?
