University of Pittsburgh is living up to its vaccine creating legacy - they may have a workable one for COVID-19. It’s obviously way too soon to know if it will succeed, but the process to begin medical trials has already been initiated.
The vaccine in question is a patch that uses sugar based “needles” to inject the vaccine. Apparently this method of delivery produces the necessary immune response in a way that traditional injection does not.
It will be months before we know if it works, and longer still to mass produce, but this is a very important first step. Even if it fails, the trials will undoubtedly provide data that can be used by anyone else working on a vaccine. As one who lives in Pittsburgh, if they need participants for those trials, sign me up, because the world can’t have a viable vaccine soon enough.
