I’m making a huge leap that most of you have seen the 1955 film Mister Roberts starring Henry Fonda as Mr. Roberts. The film was based on a successful Broadway play about the crew of the USS Reluctant…
In the waning days of World War II, the United States Navy cargo ship Reluctant and her crew are stationed in the "backwater" areas of the Pacific Ocean.
Only in this case it’s the Captain standing up for his men rather than a Junior Officer standing up to the Captain on behalf of the crew. And it’s not a cargo ship on the backwaters somewhere, but a ship of the line U.S. aircraft carrier CVN USS Theodore Roosevelt. The Roosevelt being one of the ultimate big sticks of the U.S. arsenal.
I’m not going to recap the details here, Mark Sumner did an excellent job covering them on the Front Page.
Captain Crozier is deserving of the medal the Order Of the Palm.
