I just listened to Cenk Uygur deliver a 20 minute speech on YouTube about why Bernie Sanders didn't win. You can listen to it here. He gets some things right. They (Bernie’s supporters) did not convince the moderates to vote for Bernie. That is absolutely right. What I kept waiting for, but never heard was that they lost because of the vitriol that his supporters spewed at anything and everything that even slightly disagreed with them. It was every bit as bad as what Donald Trump supporters can muster just minus the racism...there was no place for you if you didn't participate in the groupthink. I heard it coming from Krystal Ball (she still is spewing), numerous YouTube channels, Matt Tiabbi, and Katie Halper, whom I might also add, so botched the interview she did with Tara Reade for her own partisan ends, that even if it is true what she claims, most people will have a hard time believing her. People that interview victims of abuse have a much higher standard of journalism. Emily Alford makes a very good case for the here but I don't want to go down that rabbit hole the linked piece does it very well. Again, Katie used this woman to smear Biden and leave Sanders as the only alternative. Well, hows that working for you now?
I am a progressive, and full disclosure, I am a paid subscriber to The Young Turks, but their coverage was not living in the real world either. It smelled a lot more like propaganda to me. Cenk, you say you didn't do a good job convincing moderates. You didn’t do a good job convincing me and other progressives like me. I was/am a Warren supporter. I believe in sound plans to get the progressive policies I would like to see implemented. Bernie never had detailed plans, but the one time Warren puts together a plan to pay for Medicare for All, you’d have thought she was trying to take healthcare away if you listened to the left wing media. She was...establishment, which is the new slur for anyone who doesn’t tow the purist line. Krystal Ball continuously berated Warren’s Medicare for All plan. It was to the point I had to wonder...does she realize she is attacking a plan that is central to the Sanders campaign? That’s the kind of stupidity that turns people off...because if it was Sanders who put out the same plan Krystal would have been fawning over it to a sickening degree.
Politics is a game that is best played with allies and not alone. You don't get policy you want moved forward because you and a small group tweet nasty things at people who don't agree like petulant children. You don't throw insults at other progressives who see things slightly differently, and you don’t look in the mirror and ask why you lost but condition it on blaming the media, moderates, or anyone else but the person you are looking at...yourself.
Hopefully this time, some of these people that screwed us yet again will clue in… I’m not particularly hopeful of that
