When Jim Bonfiglio ran for office in 2018, he lost by only 34 votes. His race in Florida House District 89 was one of the many races that went into a painful and drawn out recount (including the race for Governor, Senator, Commissioner of Agriculture and at least two other State House seats).
The good news? Bonfiglio is running again in 2020. And he can win.
Bonfiglio’s opponent, Caruso, has had two years demonstrate whether he would be a voice of moderation or if he would be as anti-science as Trump (who is now, technically a constituent of the district).
Unfortunately, Caruso voted for bills that would keep local governments from making their own environmental policies. One example was his 2019 vote to keep local governments from banning plastic straws, which can hurt sea life. Though this district is along the Atlantic Ocean, he voted against protecting the waters in his district. He also voted for legislation that would preempt local organizing to protect waterways (such as Rights of Nature campaigns). (Pictured below, PBC League tries to talk to him about the GOP’s attack on home rule, but, it didn’t change his votes).
Bonfiglio can offer us better. We need to support candidates that are working to take back our state, which has been under Republican rule in the State House and State Senate for over 20 years. Every seat matters. Send a donation his way to help him send the incumbent packing and send a message to the Trump family. Links below!
In case you need a little more convincing, we have an even better chance this year than we did in 2018:
