Have a nice cup of coffee…..this looks verrry inviting!
or maybe….
and a little….
There are fewer things to smile about these days, with all the fear, and heartache, and sorrow going on. Still, there are those things that move us to perk up just enough to smile, without looking like we’re waiting for root canal.
While I was trying to fall asleep the other night, something on tv made me smile. Just a little itty bitty one, that lifted the corner of my mouth. And I thought...”Gee...there are still things to make me smile!!” I hope the same is true for all of us.
So I had an ideeeeea. (Relax. That sentence used to scare the bejeebus out of the Dear Husband, but you lot are safe. More or less.)
Wouldn’t it be a good idea to just jot down things that make us smile. On scraps of paper, just a few words of the things we don’t always think about, but that always make us smile.
Need ideas? M’kay:
- the last lines from Casablanca..”Louie...”
- kids laughing, preferably with animals
- animals laughing. They do , you know
- memories of silly things from grade school NOBODY can laugh like kids!
- flowers..given, spied, stumbled upon, growing
- tigers
- lots of music: Chariots of Fire and so much more
- kids singing the silly things we used to: 99 bottle of beer?
- the comfort of good friends
That’s nowhere near a complete list, and I’m sure you guys know scads more that have meaning for you.
I want to put my scraps of smiles in a jar, a baggie, any old container, as long as I have another handy. Put all the scraps in one container. When you need a smile, ta-daaaa!! After you read it, but it in the second container. Repeat as needed until all the original scraps are in the second container. Then...start all over. You can add to the Smile Pile any old time. New smiles come along all the time. Heck, I smiled while writing this!
There are instant rewards in life. Just as I finished typing this, a dear friend from England called. We hadn’t spoken in ages, but it was as if we’d just had a nice cuppa the day before. Two hours flew by as we caught up with news and remembered good times from years gone by. A real treasure that will have me smiling often.
I wish you miles of smiles!
All are welcome to join the fun, the silliness, the conversations. If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation.
There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope.
We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community.
We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern.
Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes.
What’s on your mind this morning?
