I was watching quilting videos and saw of group of them from an artist who designs patterns for 3yd quilt tops. All you need is a yard of 3 fabrics you like together and one of her patterns and you are set to go! So I did.
DK Quilt Guild is a place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a
better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too.
Would you like to write a future DK Quilt Guild diary? We NEED writers! Your diary can be elaborate and full of photos, a simple story of your own quilting history or that of someone you love, a discussion of a current project or a technique you're learning, new adventures... You could post quilt retreat-day recipes (things like crockpot meals, so food appears without much attention from you)... We could do show and tell or open thread, also, but either way, we need diarists to host. It is EASY if you're willing to take the chance. Please join in! Please volunteer within the comments or you can send Pam from Calif a kosmail.
I had 2 lovely autumn themed prints, a yard of each and the green, which turned out not to be a yard but I had enough for everything other than the binding. I made that in one of the orange fabrics.
This was very simple to make, although I don’t do well on long straight borders and tend to weave around like a soused mouse sometimes.
Here is a close up of the fabrics. I just love the richness of the oranges and reds. I decided that I would quilt each block by top stitching around the flowers and leaves. In normal times, I would not spend the time doing such work because it is tedious, I am not all that good at it and it is so time consuming. But right now, guess what? I have more time than I need to do my chores and spending hours learning to do a better job of this kind of work is a blessing in itself.
This next picture is of the sandwiching process. I saw a video (I spend a lot of time watching videos and trying weird stuff) where the lady wrapped the front and the back of a quilt to be sandwiched onto pool noodles, and just unrolled it as she spray basted it. It was so easy but I used cardboard tubes out of batting rolls and was amazed at how easy it was to do. Everything stays so straight and flat. I will use this method since it worked so well here.
The next pix are close ups of the stitching I am doing. I hope to get better but I only have 17 of one block and 18 of the other so I may not catch on that quickly. Its too bad they won’t print side by side here. I plan to do as much of each flower as I can to give it depth and texture. I think it will be nice when I am done. I have no destination for it as yet. It is a little smaller than 4 x 6, a nice chair or day bed quilt, maybe good for watching tv or reading to a child.
What are you doing with your time?
Be safe and be well.
