Joe Biden has been working hard to come up with an aggressive policy plan to deal with the economic recovery after COVID. Apparently the architect of this plan is Larry Summers. In case you don’t know who Larry Summers is, well, he is an economist, has worked in hedge funds, and was an official in the Clinton and Obama administrations. He was also president of Harvard at one point. Shocking enough, while there, he recruited Jeffery Epstein to give large sums of money to Harvard, and they became friends. And yes, he has frequented Epstein’s Home in Manhattan and is playing mum about what he saw there.
Here’s the thing. Summers isn’t that good at his job. An example, he’s the guy that advocated for the privatization of Russian government assets. A disastrous course of action that allowed the Russian Kleptocrats to take over most of the country’s industry. And that is just the start of his incompetence. He ran Obama’s economic recovery and blew parts of that too.
And, as he has always done, I suspect that Summers will advise giving money to banks and corporations to help us out of the COVID slump. That is exactly what he did to bail out the economy at the start of Obama’s presidency. Heaven forbid that they’d help the rest of us.
So, when I think of Summers in a role in the Biden campaign, well, I kind of get the chills. A lot of commentators are telling us what a nice upstanding honest guy Joe is. Maybe, but hiring an incompetent economist who hangs out with child molesters doesn’t say that to me. It says, business as usual in Washington.
If Biden is trying to show that the Democratic party is better, he could take no worse step than hiring this guy and letting him have any say, especially when there are credible intelligent economists out there, take Paul Krugman for example. Oh, that’s right, Krugman doesn’t think that the solution to our country’s economic woes is giving more money to rich folks. And that Nobel Prize he has, bah.
When folks tell you that Biden has issues, well, he does. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t vote for him, you absolutely should. But you should understand that he has to be held accountable, and we have to push him to make good choices.
It is hard to put direct pressure on Biden. He is not in office. But you should write his campaign and tell them to be more responsible. To send Summers packing back to whatever hole he crawled out of. Then, those of us who view Biden’s whole record will feel that he actually is making an effort to be more honest and to live up to a higher ideal.
