Monday, the incomparable ZenTrainer wrote How to lose a state without even trying, about the failure of Florida Democrats to run candidates in two FL Congressional Districts, thereby donating the seats to the GOP, potentially limiting Presidential enthusiasm and turnout in those districts.
But don’t despair! On the FL state legislative side, there is still time to bump up turnout and enthusiasm and make Republicans feel the heat (and himidity in Florida). It’s the
140 District Project to raise enough money to contest every Florida State Legislative District up for grabs in November.
There are still about 30 slots to fill and the main barrier is money — the filing fee of $1,800 (or as my people would say, 100 Chai). That’s a lot of money for one person — especially a student or a senior who might want to run.
But it is not a lot of money (about $54,000) to fundraise: If the average contribution is $20, it would mean 2,700 contributions, if it’s $50, 1,080 contributions, $100, 540. Any amount, even $5, helps toward this goal.
