Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted post, from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum.
This series was conceived as a haven where folks can drop in to share conversation, ideas, weather reports, and music. Feel free to leave a note, comment, picture, or tune. As always the diarist gets to sleep in, and may show up long after the post is published. So you know, it's a feature, not a bug.
Pull up a chair, get your cup of tea, coffee, or other favorite morning beverage and join us for a neighborly start to the day ahead.
1. I figure I’d have time alone with my thoughts. It turns out I didn’t have as many thoughts as I thought I would.
2. Silence is frightening to those of us who verbalize compulsively.
3. Does this year count toward one’s age? Asking for a friend.
4. Covid-19 doesn’t appear to affect rats, snakes, leeches, and alligators. That means MAGAs are safe.
5. One of my clients said, “I don't think it's going to be that hard to stay 6 feet away from my wife during the quarantine...that's 94 feet closer than the restraining order says.”
6. I learned a new slang term for toilet paper from somebody in Australia: “Shit ticket.” Now you know.
7. Forget plucking my eyebrows. I'm now trimming them like bangs.
8. I cannot believe that a month ago, I actually questioned the decision to make liquor stores essential services.
9. I never understood why the dog lurked near the door and tried to run outside when I opened it. I am no longer puzzled by that behavior.
10. Do you feel that your refrigerator is judging you?
11. Me: “One nice thing about the quarantine is that we are not out spending money.”
Sockpuppet: “Yes, it is so nice...” (clicks ‘Add to Cart’)
Some blues for the quarantine.
