I am interested to see what people think “if” Democrats win the Presidency, Senate, and House in November. What would people like to see happen in terms of rule changes, legislation, and other matters outside of the normally “Medicare of All”.
To me the first 90 days should include the following
- Making D.C. a State and potentially P.R.
- Expanding the House of Representatives to between 700-900 members
- Passing a Federal Elections Voting Requirement Bill to include mail-in voting and ease of restriction of I.D. requirements (wouldn’t work for State Elections).
- Reversing the Trump Tax-Cuts or somehow requiring companies that benefit to increase wages (what makes up salary vs hourly?)
- Potentially increasing or creating new Appellate and District Courts.
So most of mine focus on the lack of progress in representation over the last 80-100 years. Increasing the size of the House of Representatives will cut down on the Electoral advantage states like Montana and Idaho have. This will decrease the likelihood of a person winning popular vote but losing the election without changing the Electoral College which would more than likely require a Constitutional Amendment.
Making D.C. a state seems obvious. Reducing the size of D.C. and then expanding the rest to give actual representation seems obvious. Puerto Rico is a bit different… I believe they should become a state but their political leadership their seems in turmoil.
Passing federal voting reform seems obvious as Republicans are intent on making it difficult for people to vote.
Increasing the number of the Appellate and District Courts also seem to logical. Again this is something that has not increased in time and case loads keep growing. Expanding the number would hopefully speed up cases.
Now all of this would need to happen by getting rid of the filibuster but I think everyone is now in agreement it is just a matter of when not if.
