Melissa Ackison, one of the GOP primary candidates in Ohio’s 26th State Senate District, also appeared as a face of the zombie apocalypse in the famous photo taken during an anti-shutdown protest at the statehouse on April 13. That’s her, on the left, in the headline photo above.
In the primary election yesterday, Ackison lost by almost 30 points.
At the protest two weeks ago, Ackison accused Ohio Governor Mike DeWine of fear mongering and tyranny.
“It enrages something inside of you,” said Ackison, who was among those who protested Republican Gov. Mike DeWine’s orders at the statehouse in Columbus with her 10-year-old son. She has “no fear whatsoever” of contracting the virus, she said Thursday, dismissing it as hype.
In the district, since the protest, 1,950 inmates at Marion Correctional Institute have tested positive for COVID-19, one of the largest outbreaks in the US.
160 corrections officers and other employees of Marion Correctional have also tested positive, raising concerns about the virus spreading to the general population in the county and the surrounding area.
Considering yesterday’s primary election results, could it be that the Republicans have found the outer limits of their craziness?
