Would you take a vaccine developed under the auspices of the Trump Administration? Would you take a vaccine that becomes available in October — just before the election? I am not an anti-vaxxer. But, I have concerns about the safety and efficacy of a vaccine that might appear to be a response to political pressures and from an administration that has a very difficult time telling the truth. I am sure there will be some announcement in late October about a vaccine or treatment. But, I will not be alone in not trusting such an announcement. This is real life — not a movie where miracle vaccines are developed in days and distributed overnight. I worry that if another nation develops an effective vaccine (e.g. Germany or Israel), the Trump Administration would not allow the vaccine to be used in the US, because Trump could not claim credit for it. I worry that we saw the precedent for that politics over science action with the failed development and deployment by the CDC for a test for the virus, when there were tests developed in other nations.
