A happy post Mothers day to you and yours from the Good News Roundup. I’m writing it a bit early tonight because I have work in the morning. So without further delay, lets get right on it.
New York state on Sunday announced new coronavirus-safety measures to better protect nursing home residents, who are highly vulnerable to the respiratory illness and account for a large share of the nearly 80,000 Americans who have died from it.
Once again I am very glad I live in New York where the local Government actually knows what its doing.
And they are not the only challengers with a decent shot at Republican seats. In Arizona, Democrat Mark Kelly has been running ahead of Republican Sen. Martha McSally, and Republicans face vulnerabilities in Iowa, Georgia, possibly Kansas and perhaps even in South Carolina. McConnell, though favored, faces a spirited opponent in Amy McGrath, a former Marine fighter pilot. Only one Democratic incumbent, Sen. Doug Jones of Alabama, is an underdog.
Having disastrously bungled the pandemic, Trump is not only falling well behind former vice president Joe Biden in the polls; he could also be creating a tidal wave that would give Democrats unified control of the federal government’s elected branches.
Blue wave 2020 baby. Its real its happening, lets wash Trump and company out of office.
On Saturday, Politico reported that Michigan GOP Senate candidate John James was caught on tape assuring a group of Black community leaders that he disagreed with President Donald Trump on a number of issues.
“Plenty, plenty of issues,” said James, who is himself African-American. “Everything from cutting Great Lakes funding to ‘shithole countries’ to speaking ill of the dead. I mean, where do you want to start?” It is unclear what James meant by “speaking ill of the dead,” but Trump has attacked a number of recently deceased politicians, from Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) to Rep. John Dingell (D-MI).
Hoo boy, that’s going to be an awkward conversation. I don’t think he’s getting the Trump endorsement now.
The issue isn’t just medical for Gandhi. The 37-year-old doctor and Texas native is now running to replace Michael McCaul, a pro-Trump conservative, as the U.S. representative for the 10th Congressional District in Texas. He is one of several doctors who had already been running for Congress, seeking to protect the Affordable Care Act, the Obama-era health law that provided health coverage to millions of Americans. (President Trump and congressional Republicans have continued to vow that they will repeal the law, despite having already failed to do so.)
The coronavirus has given medical candidates like Gandhi a new rationale, not to mention a new visibility. In the last several months, doctors and nurses have been praised as “heroes,” celebrated as frontline soldiers in a war. And just like previous veterans, they are now seeking to bring what they have learned to Washington.
Doctors running for Congress is very exciting to me right now, as is Doctors who call Trump out on his crap.
eff Sessions is trying to win back his old Senate seat and move on from his rocky tenure as attorney general. But President Donald Trump won’t let it go.
On Friday morning Trump called Sessions a “disaster” as the nation’s top law enforcement officer and said that Sessions visited Trump “four times just begging me to be attorney general.” The stinging attack on Fox News comes during crunch time for a July Alabama Senate primary pitting Sessions against former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville. The winner will face Democratic Sen. Doug Jones.
Sessions on Friday afternoon rebutted Trump’s retelling of the 2016 Cabinet search on, but gently. The former Alabama senator cannot afford to be seen by conservatives in his state as at odds with the president, so Sessions said he has “enormous appreciation” for Trump and affirmed that he will vote for him.
Hey remember this guy? Yeah the comedy of errors that is Jeff Sessions existence continues as Trump is actively trying to stop him from getting his old job back. And you know whoever loses that fight we win.
Well that does it for this morning, you all have a splendid week. Stay healthy, stay vigilant, and for the love of God STAY HOME.
