I made one comment supporting Elizabeth Warren as a veep pick and all hell broke loose in the comment section, because I intimated that without a strong progressive on the ticket, I might not vote for Joe Biden for president.
Stop the demeaning pressure tactics! Progressives have EVERY right to demand that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and their hand-picked nominee earn the progressive vote. Without us, Biden won’t win, so you better listen.
The neo-liberal Democrats decided that Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren were SO scary to the banking community and the 1% as candidates (even though they were garnering the most support financially and attendance) that they orchestrated a bold move to elevate the WEAKEST CANDIDATE with President Obama quietly moving the levers in the background to manipulate older black voters in South Carolina.
Now, why oh why did they do this? Is it because they welcome the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, social justice from minorities, free undergraduate education and student debt relief? NO. They don’t. Not really. But they DO love to talk a good game to get the progressives all hopeful that incremental steps will get them the reforms the country needs AND wants. We’ve seen this tired song and dance before. The DNC has been doing this since the McGovern race in 1972. Reaganism made it worse when the serious triangulation began by Clinton and it hasn’t stopped.
So lay off blaming the progressives who are sick of waiting. Biden is a lousy candidate who will probably lose to Trump and it won’t be because of progressives. It will be because the DNC refused to believe and trust in their historical mission to stand for working people and social justice. It was because the DNC went the cynical route again to go with another neo-liberal that would ensure the status quo would be maintained. I mean, look at the people Biden is “consulting” with! Larry Summers?
If Democrats want to get mad at someone if their boy loses, don’t look at me or any other progressive. Look to the DNC for orchestrating a nominating process that undercut the popular people in the race and betrayed us longtime democratic voters once again.
