Good News: We bring it, we make it.
The Good Gnus group is a community of readers, writers, activists, supporters, community builders, and patriots. We begin gathering every day at 7 a.m. ET to celebrate national good news. Our most active members are of course a subgroup of members of Daily Kos, whose Front Pages celebrate “News, Community, Action.” However, you don’t have to be a member of Daily Kos to be a Gnusie.
We are realists, not fools, idiots, or ostriches. We know we live in a world where active, nefarious, and evil decision-makers do very bad things and create stress and anxiety in us, our loved ones, our friends, our allies, and our neighbors, and destroy people and systems we hold dear, yet we choose to focus on the good news that people create around the country. Sometimes we ourselves create Good News. Together we are strong and resilient. We return regularly to these pages to revitalize.
Lifting with Rashida Tlaib
As you may recall, on Mothers’ Day, Rashida Tlaib posted Behind bars for being poor during the pandemic. She told us we’d raised $20,000 to help Moms waiting for trial to post bail. Thank you for your support!
Rashida posted another diary on Friday: heartbroken. outraged. in response to the murder of George Floyd. She and the other members of The Squad (Representatives Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) are joining to raise $50,000 for critical racial justice work.
George [Floyd] should still be alive. So should countless other Black people, whose lives have been cut short by police brutality.
We must hold the officers involved accountable, but we must also take collective action to dismantle the racist institutions that allow devastating acts of violence like this to keep happening.
Please donate now to help us reach our goal of $50,000 for Black Visions Collective and Reclaim the Block, two Black-led Minnesota-based groups organizing for racial justice.
Rashida responded to a few comments in her diary. You can Follow her here, and if you do that, you will be able to find her diaries easily in your Stream (Daily Kos Inbox).
Okay, the following tweet made me cry the good tears just before this diary posted. I just have time to embed it:
I’m thankful for sisterhood, The Squad, and all of you, too.

Daily Kos’s own Wizard of Wit Bill in Portland Maine lets me repeat the results of his research. He arrayed the following items in his popular Who Won the Week? poll in Friday’s Cheers and Jeers. About 3,100 people voted in that poll. Please enjoy Bill’s on-point analysis and wit, vote in his poll, Rec his diaries, get on his bandwagon, send him a donation, and earn his blessing.
Cheers and Jeers archive and future editions here. Way, way more than 2 thanks to The One, our Wicked Wizard of Wit and writer of Who Won the Week, Willhelm von kosland!
The medical professionals and essential-business workers putting their lives on the line won the week. Whom would you vote for for runner-up?
- Federal Judge Robert Hinkle, for ruling that Florida's law requiring felons to pay legal fees as part of their sentence before regaining voting rights is unconstitutional
- The Australian university researchers who recorded the fastest internet data speed---44.2 terabits per second---from a single chip using existing communications infrastructure
- Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D), for his blistering response to the armed members of Y'all Qaeda who hanged him in effigy and tried to terrorize his family. (The ringleader was instantly fired from his job.)

- World peace in space, as NASA and space agencies around the world sign the Artemis Accords that will promote safe and peaceful space exploration
- The indigenous Ashaninka people, aka "Guardians of the Amazon Rainforest," who won a decades-long court battle with soulless, evil loggers, setting a legal precedent for thousands of similar cases

After darkness, we bring light:
GoodNewsRoundup said: “The best path to saving our democracy will come if we take the White House, take the Senate, and keep the House of Representatives.” Therefore, she set up a campaign to help us do all three. Your donation in this fundraiser will be split between the 8 closest Senate races, the 7 closest House races, and the race for the White House.
In this campaign we raised $12,093! Thank you! We’ve reached 60% of our goal!

Although Rashida Tlaib is my incumbent Rep, her election in 2020 will not be a slam dunk ... Her boldness since she's been in Congress makes us proud. The Putin-installed conman has made vicious, racist attacks against her. Republicans will target her in 2020, and she now has an opponent in the Democratic primary.
We’re listening …
We welcome comments in Roundups every day regarding:
- National or local Good News.
- Links, stories, music, videos, quotes, tweets. (No tweets or images of the saffron chlamidiot, please.)
- Your resistance activity.
In my Sunday smorgasbord Roundups, I especially welcome the following types of comments:
- Who won YOUR week?
- Questions about Daily Kos tech issues or our map.
- Good News Roundups and you.
- How are you doing?
Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! Although 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, that’s okay, we all do what we can. For 3 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind! Moo if you are proud of us!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
How am I doing? I’ve had a tiring week and did not sleep well last night for various reasons, and I’ve got a couple of Zoom meetings today, one a book study group with members of the Wayne County Progressive Caucus, so unfortunately I may not be able to respond to every comment with more than a Recommendation, and even that may be delayed until later in the day.
Oh, my plumbing hardware arrived, and I should be able to finish installing it today. Indoor plumbing is one of the things I am very grateful for during this pandemic, and our bathroom, despite minor problems, always remained fully functional this week. The pickup from the grocery story lot (my first pickup) went very well this week, and we even gave it a second try. As most of you probably know by now, at certain grocery stores, you can order and pay online, and workers will deliver groceries directly to the trunk of your car. Very grateful.
This is a group diary, and by my power I declare this Good Gnus Salo(o)n open! Let the good-news sharing and community building begin!
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
2thanks (he, his)
