Well, here we are. Right where I thin Trump, his cronies and Russia want us.
It definitely is NOT a stretch. Interesting how the majority of arrests in the Twin Cities have been of out of state, white young men. Hmmmmm. Yes, there are people of color involved in some of the looting and destruction and I think that does detract from the purpose of the protest. But I would not put it past this GOP that embraces white supremacy to be all on board with these people infiltrating a peaceful protest to cause destruction.
I’m not going to pontificate much myself on the murder (yes I said it) of George Floyd or the protests in reaction to it because there are others who have been saying it more eloquently than I can. Here’s a few op-eds:
This one is from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and it’s excellent:
Don’t understand the protests? What you’re seeing is people pushed to the edge
From the piece:
If you’re white, you probably muttered a horrified, “Oh, my God” while shaking your head at the cruel injustice. If you’re black, you probably leapt to your feet, cursed, maybe threw something (certainly wanted to throw something), while shouting, “Not @#$%! again!” Then you remember the two white vigilantes accused of murdering Ahmaud Arbery as he jogged through their neighborhood in February, and how if it wasn’t for that video emerging a few weeks ago, they would have gotten away with it. And how those Minneapolis cops claimed Floyd was resisting arrest but a store’s video showed he wasn’t. And how the cop on Floyd’s neck wasn’t an enraged redneck stereotype, but a sworn officer who looked calm and entitled and devoid of pity: the banality of evil incarnate……….
…...You start to wonder if it should be all black people who wear body cams, not the cops. (my emphasis)
“You start to wonder if it should be all black people who wear body cams, not the cops.” Wow!
And this op-ed takes the NFL to task after they tweeted their statement about George Floyd for which they were rightfully ratio’d. Here is that op-ed:
This is why Colin Kaepernick took a knee
From the piece:
Two knees. One protesting in the grass, one pressing on the back of a man’s neck. Choose. You have to choose which knee you will defend. There are no half choices; there is no room for indifference. There is only the knee of protest or the knee on the neck.
Give it a read…. she says what we’ve all been screaming at the NFL for years.
All this comes down to that racist in the White House. I can’t even refer to him as the president anymore. He only cares about himself and are people doing enough to “thank” him. I have never hated a human being…. but I hate this man with the heat of 1,000 suns and we need to make sure he is NOT given another 4 years to further destroy this country. He and his enablers must be shown the door.
We need to swarm the polls in numbers too big to manipulate or for them to claim “fraud” where none exists. This needs to be a loud, resounding rejection of the GOP and their white supremacist visions. If they stifle vote by mail when (not if) the COVID second wave hits… I will cover myself in garbage bags as a makeshift hazmat suit, mask up and vote in person. We.All.Must.
This is the time where we as citizens should think about what “good Germans” were thinking in Nazi Germany …. but we must ACT.
OK… off the soapbox. Here’s something cute to start your Monday:
