I Saw Two Men
Today I saw two men in the street
After a night of fear and fire and frustration
They were low to the ground
One with pale skin and a dark suit
White hair and a blue facemask
On one knee
Across from him a darker man squatted
Wearing clothes of a more humble design
His black hair curly
His black facemask and black sunglasses
Concealing but not hiding his face
As the two men talked
Between the two men stood a small child
Wearing the same kind of clothes
As the darker man behind
Protectively embraced by him
As the two men talked
And the child seemed bored
I saw the two men talking with each other
After the night of fear and fire and frustration
But I did not hear what they said
They spoke with each other not at each other
And it seemed to me
They could solve any problem like that
For the child between them
