I'm from Minnesota and proud of that fact. We have a wonderful state with special people in it. The phrase used most often is "Minnesota nice". Don't get me wrong, it's not Utopia and we obviously have more than our fair share of jerks, morons and assholes like everywhere else.
This is my first time writing here, but I felt the need growing over the last week as events careened out of control. So I hope I do this right for everyone to understand.
This entire week from the day George Floyd was murdered to today I've been alternately horrified, angry, appalled, upset, shocked, confused and sick. The peaceful parts of the protests were fine. Masses of people are grieving over what I consider a second plague in this country. The brutality of police against African Americans. It MUST stop.
The shock and some of those other emotions came as people insinuated themselves into these protests under cover of darkness with chaos, terror and destruction on their minds. These people didn't give a damn about why there was a protest. They just wanted to burn.
After being sick inside and appalled all week this is what finally broke me and started the tears.

This store has been a second home for me and my family for years. No we don't own it but we buy all our books here. In business for 46 years and somebody burned it to the ground.
This is not the Minnesota I know. And it's not the way we do things. Something needs to be done about this second virulent plague that so divides our country.
