Here me out BEFORE you comment, PLEASE!
Like most people here, I am a fervent LIBERAL, and the LIBERAL instinct in me wants to see an overwhelming Democratic Party takeover of all levels of government across the country. Unfettered liberalism is my wet-dream.
But the pragmatic side of me tells me that this will NEVER happen. Every time we look at the polls, we see that there are still 40% of the people in this country that believe in that idiot that currently occupies the White House, wreaking havoc across this entire nation. We may very well be on the verge of civil war, and bold bipartisan action is needed.
America at her best is bipartisan. We are at our worst when one side dominates so strongly as to eliminate any effective input from the other side. That hasn’t ever happened with Liberals in charge, but...
So here’s the idea: We need an electoral wipeout this year of truly epic proportions. We need to so thoroughly trounce Trump that even the most die-hard of his supporters if they had any brains at all, would recognize that the will of America is for Joe Biden to be president. A Biden/Romney ticket could do just that.
There are millions of Republicans that are embarrassed by their choice of Trump — his narcissism, his stupidity coupled with his willful ignorance, his pettiness, his greed, and corruption. But they are equally repulsed by abortion pushing, profligate welfare spending Democrats. They are still conflicted.
WE KNOW that Joe Biden is NOT a LIBERAL. I would much rather see a President Warren (I voted for her in the primary BTW). But I, like many Republicans, have a bigger goal and purpose, this year. I want American Democracy to SURVIVE. If we were to elect a Biden/Warren ticket, I seriously doubt that it would. The hard right, along with their arsenals, would wreak holy hell on the country — and I’m not sure that legitimate law enforcement would be on our side.
We know that Biden is a centrist, but how does he convince my Republican neighbors that he is? Having Mitt Romney on the ticket would go a long way on that.
There would have to be strings attached:
- Mitt would have to denounce the Trump Republican Party (he already has) and begin to caucus with Democrats in the Senate, immediately.
- Mitt’s job would be to convince the Republicans that are appalled by Trump, that Joe is a moderate Democrat that can be trusted.
He could be promised a degree of autonomy, with the ability to publicly disagree with President Biden, AFTER consulting with the President over what he is going to say and do. In the event of a tied Senate, his vote with Democrats to break the tie could be uncertain.
If 49 out of 50 states vote for Biden/Romney (I don’t have much hope for my native state of North Dakota), the hard-right would find it difficult to justify aggressive action in America’s streets. Law enforcement would recognize that their constitutional obligation is to defend the country against the few extremists that try to foment civil war.
