It doesn’t matter to Trump that the Bishop of St. John’s was outraged by his performance.
The Right Rev. Mariann Budde, the Episcopal bishop of Washington, blasted President Donald Trump on Monday night after he had peaceful protesters teargassed so that
“Let me be clear: The President just used a Bible and the sacred text of the Judeo-Christian and one of the churches of my diocese without permission as a backdrop for a message antithetical to the teachings of Jesus and everything our churches stand for,” Budde told CNN anchor Anderson Cooper.
The bishop noted that Trump hadn’t even prayed during his visit.
“I just can’t believe what my eyes have seen tonight,” she said.
Budde also ripped Trump in an interview with the Washington Post, saying that “everything he has said and done is to inflame violence.”
“We need moral leadership, and he’s done everything to divide us,” she told the Post.
Showing their proper respect for religion, Kellyanne attacked the Bishop claiming “that’s not her bible.”
“That is the best answer to the question you asked about the Episcopal minister,” she continued. “That is not — quote — her church. That is not — quote — her Bible. We don’t look into other people’s hearts and souls and discern and judge what their faith is, why the president felt compelled to walk there, why he held that Bible up.”
“That is a symbol to everyone that we will not allow arsonists and anarchists who set that fire ablaze, who really demean the memory of those who have lost their lives in the name of their respective faiths and religions,” Conway said. “We won’t allow them to dissuade us from practicing our religion.”
Yeah, I kinda missed the “thou shalt use the power of government against the people” passage.
it doesn’t matter to Trump that the protest in Layfayette park was non-violent and peaceful, he and his staff apparently celebrated and were very proud of themselves after gassing protestors for the photo-op.
The Trump White House is “celebrating” Monday evening’s gassing of protestors in Lafayette Park to clear the area so the President could walk to St. John’s Church to hold up a bible for a photo-op. President Donald Trump made the decision to hold a Rose Garden speech during which
he threatened to deploy the Military throughout the country to “quell” protestors demonstrating over the police killing of George Floyd, then march to the historic house of worship.
“One senior aide was exuberantly telling friends the photograph of [Trump] holding a Bible in front of the church that had been attacked by vandals was an ‘iconic’ moment for the president,”
Axios’ Jonathan Swan reports.
But not all of them felt that way.
“But a senior White House official told Axios that when they saw the tear gas clearing the crowd for Trump to walk to the church with his entourage: ‘I’ve never been more ashamed. I’m really honestly disgusted. I’m sick to my stomach. And they’re all celebrating it. They’re very very proud of themselves.'”
it is ironic that Trump used federal troops against a peaceful protest when the arson and looting he was ostensibly attacking has been implemented by outside agitators, white supremacists and the far-right “Boogaloo Bois.”
“We have seen things like white supremacist organizers posting on platforms about coming to Minnesota,” Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington said at the same press conference, adding that a potential connection to organized crime is also being investigated.
Harrington added that white nationalists are posting messages on social media, according to Joy Reid, that urge fellow extremists to go to Minneapolis to “get our loot on” and create mayhem. He told reporters that authorities will investigate people attempting to use public outrage over Floyd’s death as a “cover” for illegal activity.
Walz told reporters he was aware of rumors that white supremacists were involved in some of the looting surrounding the protests and that “based on my suspicions and what I've seen on this,” he found them credible.
"It gets worse than that," he added. "The cartels, who are wondering if there was a break in their drug transmissions, are trying to take advantage of the chaos. That's why this situation is on a federal level."
Walz and other officials also claimed that 80 percent of the rioters were from out of state.
So White supremacists are posing as “Antifa” and the far-left in order to entice Trump to send Federal Troops against them. It’s a perfect setup where black people and the left are caught in the cross-hairs.
In addition to these there are those who feel that the looting and the destruction is justified. That’s it's well earned and maybe the only way to get the powers-that-be to finally listen. That it’s “Repercussions.”
“They are killing multiple people,” the man said. “They just gunned down a Hispanic man and he had his arms up and they shot him 16 times when he was calling for his life. So I don’t understand that. What do you mean, one cop? This has been happening. We can go five years back with [Trayvon Martin] as the martyr. We can go 10 years back.”
Shuman attempted to direct the conversation back to the subject of looting.
“So!” the man exclaimed. “It’s the repercussions of your ancestors. That’s what happened. I’m sorry though. You might not even be that white guy, but your ancestors profited off of me and that’s repercussions. Because a lot of things happen in my life are just repercussions from being black.”
“You looking at me crazy,” the man continued. “But I’ve got a scholarship. So I’m just trying to give you an understanding of where people’s mentals (sic) are. I haven’t took a damn thing but I need you to understand it’s not just one cop.”
That is the wrong path to take. Some of the businesses vandalized may be minority-owned, how is that fairness, how is that justice? This is how they want us to be, at each other throats destroying our own neighborhoods.
Imagine a Democratic Governor who refuses help from Trump and the U.S. army who then has those troops sent to his state where we have Federal Troops on the ground in a standoff against peaceful largely African-American protestors.
Considering how Trump treated peaceful protestors in Lafayette park we would be facing a potential Kent State level event.
It’s exactly what the far-right would like to enact. It’s exactly what they dream of. “Cleaning up the riff-raff with a decisive show of force.”
It’s exactly what smart and level headed people, people who do care about peace, who do care about enacting lasting change can’t allow to happen. They have to fight fire with water, violence with peace, hate with love.
They have to rise above and show they true heart and passion for a better America.
And they have to do it now.
