I haven’t seen any diaries yet so thought I’d make sure people know:
Minnesota AG Ellison announces charges to be brought against former police officer Derek Chauvin and the other officers for the murder of George Floyd.
Star Tribune:
Attorney General Keith Ellison plans to elevate charges against the former Minneapolis police officer who knelt on George Floyd’s neck while adding charges of aiding and abetting murder against the other three officers at the scene, according to multiple law enforcement sources familiar with the case.
Ellison is expected to provide an update this afternoon on the state’s investigation into Floyd’s death. According to sources, former officer Derek Chauvin, recorded on video kneeling on Floyd’s neck as he begged for air on May 25, will now be charged with second-degree murder.
The other three officers at the scene — Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane — will also be charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder, according to the sources, who spoke on conditions of anonymity. Chauvin was arrested last Friday and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
Ellison held a news conference Wednesday to discuss the charges.
"We strongly believe these developments are in the interest of justice for Mr. Floyd, his family, this community and our state," he said. "George Floyd mattered. He was loved, his family was important and his life had value," Ellison said. "We will seek justice for him and for you and we will find it."
UPDATE on Chauvin’s now Ex-wife:
Derek Chauvin's wife requests to change her last name in divorce filing
Kellie Chauvin separated from her husband on May 28, the day before he was charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for the death of George Floyd, according to the filing.
Chauvin also requested full rights and titles to the couple's properties in Oakdale, Minnesota, and Windermere, Florida... She asked for an equitable division of their shared vehicles and bank accounts, and she won't require spousal support since she makes an independent income as a Realtor, according to the filing.
I know there were concerns she was filing for divorce to protect assets/inheritance etc. But unless I’m missing something, this doesn’t sound like someone more concerned about their finances than wanting to no longer share a bed with a murderer. Just my .02.
