Since the DNC 2020 presidential candidate, Joe Biden made clear that his running mate will be a woman, there is no shortage of unsolicited recommendations and direct lobbying efforts on behalf of one woman or the other.
This brief blog post is intended to recommend one particular candidate at this moment of raw emotions following the killing of George Floyd by a white cop. As the media elites in Washington are wasting no time to suggest that an African-American is a logical choice for Joe Biden, I want to advocate caution.
Don’t be fooled by this meaningless and token offer.
Let me explain.
-
We had one of our own, President Obama, for 8 years without anything to show for it, except to appease the white intellectuals whose power structure he re-inforced and black elites who were made to belong in Washington power circles for the duration of his presidency. As black people, President Obama made us feel good. We loved seeing Michelle as the First Lady and their adorable kids at the White House. That’s all we got for 8 years.
-
If as president with real powers, Obama was not able to move the needle for us, what makes you think that a black woman as Vice President will do for us or for all Americans? We need a Vice President who will move the needle on the issues dear to us, not a token nod to Washington black and whites elites who are interested in just maintaining the illusion of reality regarding the daily challenges we face.
-
This VP selection is also about the future of the DNC with competing interest groups who also need to feel part of the collision that transcends the black and white divide that the media helps to stoke too well. We should not lose sight of this fact unless we want the DNC to be tagged as a black party just like RNC is predominantly a white party.
-
White women, Hispanics, Asians, LGBT, and others must be deliberately cultivated to feel part of the Rainbow as long as they have progressive agenda.
-
Forget the polls showing Biden blowout. This election will be very close and will be won with not only the black vote but most importantly with the white vote from the suburbs as well. Don’t discount them.
-
Shortly after Biden is elected, the RNC president wannabees like Marco Rubio, Nikki Haley, and others will rediscover their backbones and make plays on race and gender. (Leopard doesn’t change their spots.) It’s easy to see a Rubio/Haley ticket or Senator Jodi Ernst with Rubio. After Trump’s defeat, the RNC will re-build fast by exploiting our 2020 weakness.
-
So let’s allow Joe Biden to select someone with 2024 in mind. He must be allowed to rebuild a party that Obama disregarded so much.
Before I summarise, don’t forget that the resuscitation of Joe Biden’s campaign for president was partly based on the surgical way Senator Elizabeth Warren dismantled Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Senator Warren’s decapitation of Mayor Bloomberg offers an insight into how she’ll dismantle Bunker Boy, Donald Trump. Washington elites are not speaking good of her, and we should all wonder why? Do you think Mayor Bloomberg or Mark Zukerberg wants her to become Vice President? How about Jeff Bezos? Do you see positive articles about Senator Warren on NY Times, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, CBS, NBC, ABC, or Washington Post? Why is that?
Finally, we need Senator Warren with a plan that terrifies the Washington elites and lifts all people, especially blacks and brown people. She will be a sharp voice as a contrast to Biden’s lack of eloquence that puts people to sleep.
Senator Warren should still deserve our consideration as African-Americans. Let’s use reason and rise above the raw emotions of the moment.
If we progressives want real change in this country, then we must counter the drumbeat in Washington to anoint a black woman as Joe Biden’s running mate. We need more than another skin type in the White House. We need a real progressive like Senator Warren.
Don’t be fooled again by Washington elites, black and white. Fooled twice, blame yourself.
