Welcome to the New Day Cafe! This is an open thread.
The Guardian has taken a look at unusual items astronauts have taken to the moon.
Over the decades, NASA has allowed astronauts to take small items to the moon; many items have been left there. In the days of the Apollo Mission, astronauts were allowed to fill one small pouch with items of their choosing.
What were some of those items?
-Buzz Aldrin brought a miniature chalice, wine, and bread for communion on the moon.
-Charles Duke and many others brought personal photographs.
-In 1971, Alan Sheperd convinced NASA to let him bring golf clubs and balls.
-When the SpaceX Falcon 9 began its recent journey, astronauts brough along a son’s toy dinosaur, as requested by the child.
Grab a cup of historical coffee,
a treat,
and share what’s on your mind this morning.
