A couple of weeks ago I went with a friend to walk around Treasure Island. No not Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. Although that would be really cool. In San Francisco Bay, Treasure Island, made of dredged up landfill, was the site of a World's Fair umpteen years ago, and more recently a Navy base, upon which my father was stationed when I was born. It was decommissioned in the 90s and TPTB can't agree on how to make money on it. My friend and I hadn't been there before so we wanted to check it out and walk around. In non-Covid times there's a popular swap meet every Sunday, and there's a bit of low-income housing out there. Not much else. There's some light industry in the old buildings: breweries, movie studios, odd things, mostly deserted now. It was weird, eerie, desolate. It's a tiny island, and the views are quite startling and spectacular. The most unexpected sight was the Doggie Diner head collection parked outside the island fire station. We chatted with a fireman who told us the owner was just storing them there. They had been there for about a year. Go figure. I can't begin to explain the saga of the Doggie Diner heads in San Francisco. It's all tied up with the early Burning Mans and epic development battles and all kinds of San Francisco lore. Anyway we had fun that day. Mary Ann almost got us arrested for trespassing at one point. It was three days after the coup attempt in D.C. so I was a bit nervous. I think they didn't want us in this one area because of radioactive crap that's been dumped there.

Y'all I'm beyond tired, barely slept in days, and worked 12 hours today so I might be passed out in the bathtub when this posts. I'll be back later.
p.s. Play it again Sam.
