that sounds harsh and maybe it is, but...
The man was around doing political radio (when I was late-teen—early-20-ish in Montreal), we battled on-air twice in 1980/81, and he’s been both a light and a bane to my life for decades. Great writer and speaker... totally *bullshit* thinker most of the time since at least 1979. I do NOT believe his words were ever meant for more than money in his pocket even 40 years ago. I could never hate the man, no matter how much I hated what he said sometimes.
It's sad he's gone, but even sadder that he went as he did.
There were many times I might have punched him in the mouth on camera and paid the price. There were times (not so many) I might have run across a set-stage and hugged him for telling the truth.
He wasn't the loon as whom he’s sometimes been portrayed, and he pulled way too many punches to stay on the air, but for good or ill (oh… so much ill), he was never KO'd for being “wrong because he lied and defended lies”.
R.I.P.: you’re dead and beyond MY judgement now, Larry.
