Exercise can bring on hypoglycemia in T1D patients. I guess that means I should do more of it—not to the point of hypoglycemia, but whenever my blood glucose drifts upward, but not by enough to warrant an insulin injection. T1D patients can still exercise cautiously, but should have a CGM to watch, and keep glucose tablets at the ready. The image above shows possible settings for high and low glucose alarms, but you will have to research them yourself, and discuss them with your doctor.
My CGM sometimes wakes me in the night so that I can take some glucose.
A large body of research on Type 2 diabetes has helped to develop guidance, informing how patients are diagnosed, treated, and manage their lifestyle. In contrast, Type 1 diabetes, often mistakenly associated only with childhood, has received less attention.
Some studies have suggested that when Type 1 diabetes occurs in adulthood, about 40% of those cases are misdiagnosed initially as Type 2 cases. Understanding how often people get diagnosed later in life is important to correctly diagnose and treat patients.
Weight management in Type 1 diabetes is complicated by insulin use and the risk of hypoglycemia, or your glucose going too low, which can be an acute complication of exercise.

Not getting enough sleep is a common affliction in the modern age. If you don't always get as many hours of shut-eye as you'd like, perhaps you were concerned by news of a recent study that found people who sleep less than six hours a night are at higher risk of type 2 diabetes.
Although healthy eating habits were associated with a lower overall risk of diabetes, when people ate healthily but slept less than six hours a day, their risk of type 2 diabetes increased compared to people in the normal sleep category.

Researchers report that GLP-1 and SGLT-2 drugs can help people with type 2 diabetes control blood sugar. They note that the high cost of drugs such Jardiance and Ozempic can be a barrier to treatment.
When compared to usual care, results suggested SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists reduce all-cause mortality (high CoE) and major adverse cardiovascular events (moderate to high CoE), SGLT2 inhibitors reduce progression of chronic kidney disease and heart failure hospitalizations and GLP-1 receptor agonists reduce stroke (high CoE), and SGLT2 inhibitors reduce serious adverse events and severe hypoglycemia (high CoE). An accompanying cost-effectiveness performed as part of the process for drafting these recommendations concluded GLP-1 receptor agonist and SGLT2 inhibitors were viewed as being of low value as first-line therapies but could provide intermediate value when added to metformin or other background as compared to adding nothing.3,4

A recent study published in Frontiers in Nutrition discusses the role of yogurt as a nutritious food in preventing and managing diabetes and obesity.
Several nutritional studies have demonstrated that the consumption of yogurt is associated with a reduced risk of obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular disease. Yogurt has also been shown to improve gastrointestinal health and proper functioning of the immune system.
FDA Announces Qualified Health Claim for Yogurt and Reduced Risk of Type 2 Diabetes
The FDA determined that there is some credible evidence supporting a relationship between yogurt intake and reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, but this evidence is limited. As noted in the petition, the association was based on yogurt as a food, rather than any single nutrient or compound in yogurt, regardless of fat or sugar content.
The FDA considers 2 cups (3 servings) per week of yogurt to be the minimum amount for this qualified health claim.

To mitigate the risk of foot ulcers, particularly among individuals susceptible due to conditions like diabetes, adhering to the following guidelines is essential
- Conduct regular foot examinations to detect any signs of irritation, fissures, or thickened skin. Utilise a mirror or enlist the help of a family member if visual impairment is a concern.
- Maintain foot hygiene by washing them daily with gentle soap and warm water. Thoroughly dry the feet, paying close attention to the spaces between the toes and apply moisturizer to prevent dryness.
- Choose properly fitting shoes and soft, moisture-absorbing socks. Before wearing, inspect shoes for foreign objects or rough edges. Change socks promptly if they become damp or sweaty.
- Trim toenails straight across using appropriate tools such as a nail clipper or emery board.
- Consult with a healthcare professional for guidance on managing corns or calluses, as they may necessitate professional intervention.
