So I started blogging just about two months ago when I realized that there is an increadible niche waiting to be filled. That niche is all Louisiana politics, all the time. Our governor's race was just starting to get down and dirty and I found myself spending too much time on LA political forums at sites like
politicsLA.com, bayoubuzz.com, and
NOLA.com.
Regular blog readers, especially of this site, no doubt find that the level of discourse on a good blog far exceeds the inanities at most straight message boards (just look at the difference between Kos and Free Republic). I found it disturbing that there was no web presence of thoughtful commentary on the Louisiana governor's race, and I was just starting to experiment with very basic html, so I felt good enough to try my hand at the eminently accesible blogger.
The result is my site, timshel, which I've gotten lots of great feedback--and a surprisingly strong number of visitors--about since I started the thing. From a Louisiana perspective, I'm a flaming liberal pinko commie, but compared to some of the readers of the sites you'll find on my blog roll I'm a little bit more moderate. I'm a Catholic from the heart of Cajun country. I'm young and degreed, but not a professional just yet. I've lived in LA all my life and have been a registered Democrat since the day I turned eighteen and registered to vote and for the selective service.
I think people who are interested in what's going on in Louisiana (a state that has voted for the president in each election for at least two decades) will have a lot to chew on from my blog, and while I don't necessarily avoid commentary on national topics at timshel it's definitely a secondary concern.
On Tuesday next week Kentucky and Mississippi will elect their governor for the next four years. Here in LA, we go to the polls on November 15, so there should be loads of good political news coming out of the state in the interim. If I'm lucky I'll be able to tackle the issues in the election and present them to a wide audience of interested parties.
The reason I'm writing this diary is because I respect the commentary from the Kos community and would like to see a little more debate on my own site. It's an open invitation to the fine members of daily kos to come on over to timshel and put in your two cents. So yes, this diary is a shameless plug for my site, but hopefully it will also open so politically involved eyes to a fairly new blog that I happen to think is pretty damned good.
