Donald Trump’s Campaign has attempted to press the claim that, since the shooting on Saturday, Trump is now a changed man. Even Tucker Carlson has come out and said, “Getting shot in the face changes a man,” as though speaking from personal experience.
“Trump plans to seize his moment by toning down his Trumpiness, and dialing up efforts to unite a tinder-box America...”
This all comes just at the beginning of the RNC Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, today. The setting is tense as security has reportedly been tightened even more. Thousands of protesters are already massing outside of the RNC Convention (www.msnbc.com/…), and the RNC has already had its first altercation with the Press by kicking reporters out of what reporters believed would have been a press-briefing (www.rawstory.com/...). This also all follows as RNC Congressmen and officials have been crying for liberal blood (www.rawstory.com/...).
So, naturally, what has Trump said so far today? Has he exhibited change? Has Trump called for calm and unity? Has he toned down his “Trumpiness??”
Trump posted this to Truth Social this morning following Aileen Cannon’s ruling today:
Members and advisers of the Trump 2024 Campaign may be attempting to work behind the scenes to use the Trump Rally Shooting to Donald Trump’s favor and make him seem more “Presidential,” but Donald Trump does not appear to have gotten this memo. Trump does not appear to realize that, if he wants sympathy [votes], he needs to appear sympathetic.
Meanwhile, President Biden has gone before the United States and spoken from the Oval Office from behind the Resolute Desk. If you have not seen Biden’s address, you should watch it.
In this speech, President Biden called for a toning down of the political rhetoric, explaining that violence never has a place in American Politics. Biden expressed at one point, “Politics should never be a battlefield or, god forbid, a killing field.” Keen listeners may have also picked up on Biden stating, “I’ll continue to speak out strongly for our democracy, stand up for our Constitution and the rule of law...” A listener might liken such a statement to a stereotypically Republican “law and order” proclamation. — a missed opportunity for Trump to capitalize off of.
You can read the full transcript of the address here: www.whitehouse.gov/...
Biden’s address to the nation received positive acclaim from people and the Media, even from FOX News. Brit Hume said on the air, just after Biden spoke:
“I thought the message was just right… He needed to be out there. He needed to say something. As a leader of the executive branch, I think his message was just right. I think most Americans would look at it and say, absolutely, Mr. President, you’re right.”

Naturally, as soon as Hume finished, the other FOX hosts went back to criticizing Biden. Still, even FOX News managed to air some approval of what Biden said in his address — a newsworthy event by itself.
Additionally, all talks of attempting to replace Biden on the DNC ticket appear to have come to a complete halt: www.nbcnews.com/….
What Donald Trump will say during his speeches today at the RNC Convention will remain a mystery until after he has spoken. Donald Trump may well deliver a halfway decent speech that is mildly coherent and does not have bigoted rhetoric calling for political violence. It does appear, however, has not changed since the attempt on his life. It appears that the “Trumpiness” will continue with no changes.
Time will only tell if Trump can win over the sympathies of enough voters to turn the tide of the election in his favor. As things are moving along and Trump opens his mouth, however, it appears only Biden is benefitting at the moment from unfolding events.
