I follow several podcasts. Most of them stay on one subject day after day, usually it’s Defendant J Trump. As much as I like these podcasts, they were not really informing me. Sooo…,
I reluctantly started a news program in February 2023 with my daughter Allyson. She thought it would be a great addition to the other channels she already started. Allyson is a Videographer and Editor with a masters in European Studies from the University of Amsterdam, and she is an aspiring Movie Director.
Me? I am semi-retired (read as unemployed at 61), with 35+ years as a radio technician in the USMC, and as a contractor for all manner of law enforcement: Federal, State, and Local. I have a BS in Business Administration and I am also an author. But mostly, I am supporting my daughter as she tries to gain Dutch citizenship and jump start her movie-making career
She lives in The Netherlands and I live in Maryland.
Before Coffee started with the thesis that Televisions News, Podcasts, and other media have become infomercials for a point- of-view. My favorite pod-casters, for instance, seem to be on only 2 or 3 stories. Trump related news, Gaza, and the election dominate. We cover those stories occasionally, but we DIVE for the stories that get pushed aside.
Each morning, Allyson, who is on live stream (she also has a Yoga channel and a Gamer channel), calls me and wakes me up around 6AM - 8AM and we both FIND stories to report. She is 6 hours ahead of me and we started this early because I still had a job for the first year. Sometimes we already have a story, but usually, to keep it fresh and chaotic, we dig for stories during the half-hour warm up for the show. We have technical glitches, mispronunciations, and even disagreements. It is not always pretty. (She captures my video on her end, so the choppiness is a feature, not a bug unfortunately, my 5G Wi-Fi can be erratic)
But it’s live and it’s fun, plus we have given each day a specialization.
The format: She reads a news Item, then I read a news item. She will do 2 or 3 total, I will usually do 2 segments plus,This Day in History. Then we finish on out with “Mic drop Moment”. We read the stories as written, give byline information and we editorialize while we read. Sometimes we even stop reading an item if it is poorly written and just discuss the topic.
Our 5-day Schedule
-
On Monday mornings we have Mucking Funday: we dig into the weekends lost stories
-
Tuesday is Good Tues News-day: Good News Only
-
Weird and Wacky Wednesday: Bizarre stories from all over
Up until now, I have thought that the audience would find us, but YouTube’s algorithm apparently doesn’t know a channel exists until you get 1000 subscribers.
So here I am, on a subscriber drive. Please subscribe and comment. We love comments, we thrive on conflict and our show is loaded with good humor and liberal ideas about the world. I am progressive and my daughter is even more progressive.
I am only posting here because I think our show is unique and it has something relevant to add. Most of our news is not centered on the USA, but it definitely has our biases.
We no longer use the New York Times or Washington Post anymore for obvious reasons. We make mistakes and get things wrong and this is the most important reason to get more subscribers, we need more comments. We need feedback.
Please subscribe and watch, and even if you don’t watch, you will help more liberal voices out into the blogosphere. Like and Notify if you like a fresh face in news (hers, not mine)
