No matter what detailed "exaggeration" one could choose to believe is the main reason for the Iraq war:
* WMD's,
* Saddam is Al Qaeda,
* free the Iraqi people
- the overall premise of the war is to secure the country of Iraq so that it will not be a danger to the U.S. or our allies. If it was already secure (everything under control and accounted for) then war could be said to be unnecessary. So, if something tangible and even slightly significant (say, a few hundred tons of high explosives perhaps) is now missing where it was once controlled by inspections and sanctions, this might be some evidence that many thousands of God's children need not have died, been maimed and otherwise traumatized and billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars could have been saved.
These recent findings are merely another piece of evidence that this is not only just the Wrong war but also (just possibly) that all war is wrong. We argue about who is best to lead the War on Terror but should we not first define just what that means? In fact terror is an emotion or it is an act. Both of these things are intangibles. In other words, you just simply cannot drop bombs on them to make them go away! You can drop bombs on people and the ones you kill are now martyred. War for the sake of Idealism is like a drug it only gives you the feeling of good health. Of course, we were attacked. We were drawn into war by the action of others. Could this be exactly what these terrorists were after? Our country is now strongly divided against itself, we are in massive spending mode, and we have rallied a good portion the Islamic world against us.
I am a strong believer in self defense. I believe that we need to be diligent in our defense by guarding our beliefs and our laws that give us freedom. I believe that we need to strengthen relationships with our allies, diligently inspect all goods and persons entering our borders, guard our infrastructure, and fix our intelligence agencies. We also need to get our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan as soon as possible! We need get the rest of the world to the table because we (the U.S.) cannot sustain these efforts on our own indefinitely. This is our bargaining chip. At some point we will have to pull out and then it will be the whole worlds problem, so isn't it the whole worlds problem now?
