Note: I had not thought about this until the Buchannan interview. It is clear to me that Nader MUST pick a conservative running mate. That is what will make him a Bush alternative instead of a Kerry alternative.
IN a facinating interview with Buchannan- Nader makes a pitch for conservatives to vote for him.

What Ralph needs to do to complete the deal is to pick a conservative running mate.
That is what would really turn heads and convince some of us that he is serious about not being a threat to Kerry. And let's face it- as much as WE like her, Winona LaDuke is guaranteed to turn off Republicans.
So... who should Nader pick?
I doubt Buchannan would do it- nor would he be the right choice.
Some interesting choices:
Alan Keyes- perhaps he couldn't live with the abortion positions.
Jean Kirkpatrick- is she too old?
Warren Rudman- a 1-2 punch- from NH (where Ralph could do well), a terrorism expert, and a budget hawk. Would he do it?
Who else would be good?
Update:
It has been pointed out that Bill Weld is too pro-corporate -that's true.
What about Rudman. He also has national security credentials and would pique an awful lot of Conservative's interest.
