Oh man I think I went over the top with this diary title, we will see. This is another is a series of photo diaries meant to provide a brief respite from the stuggles of the day and as a reminder that we share this planet with some amazing critters.
Let's leap right in...
Pantropical Spotted Dolphin
I will get the Trembling Nudi out of the way first.
This is Chromodoris vibrata also known as the Trembling Nudibranch (pron. NUDE-uh-brank).
Imperial Nudibranchs "trailing". They are commonly seen in pairs like this.
A closeup look. The two ears are sensory organs called rhynophores.
Dwarf Moray
It is considerably bigger on your computer screen than in real life.
Yellowmargin Moray
They get their name from the colors on their tail.
Spotted Eagle Ray
A closeup. For such beautiful graceful creatures they have rather funny faces. They feed on crustaceans they find in the sand on the sea floor and crush them with plate-like teeth.
Wire Coral Goby
Redstripe Pipefish
Endemic to Hawaii this is a relative of the seashorse. This individual appears to be carrying eggs along the bottom side which means it is a male. Yes, like seahorses the males carry the fertilized eggs.
Flying Fish
This one is just getting airborne.
Leaf Scorpionfish
Shortfin Pilot Whale
This is a large male.
Red-Footed Booby
Sorry. I didn't realize what I captured until I processed the image. Booby Poop.
