From CNN regarding the shutdown:
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey indicates that Democrats and Republicans don't see eye to eye on the issue, and self-described Tea Party movement supporters say such a shutdown, even for a long period of time, would be a good thing.
Hey, Tea Party moron, do you have any clue how utterly ill-informed you really are?
Now, before you begin cursing me with your poorly structured, intelligence free, uneducated quip, let me tell you first what I think of you and your full-on embrace of a government shutdown:
It's the height of ignorance. And, by the way, ignorance is not a virtue.
A government shutdown doesn't mean that Barack Obama and his party will be hurting. It isn't a calorie-free respite for government workers and programs you love to hate.
I'll tell you exactly what it is. It is your elderly parents and grandparents not being able to pay their rent or mortgage for a month or longer. It is disabled kids' parents in tears as the enormous expense for their child's medication isn't supplemented by the little that these government checks provide in the wake of a healthcare system that fleeces us and leaves us for dead.
It is basic services you take for granted (here's a good list):
* Over 1,000,000 federal employees were sent home during the combined 1995-96 shutdowns. Major federal work force furloughs occurred in of the Department of Education, the Department of Veteran Affairs, Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Social Security Administration, to name a few.
* National museums and monuments closed down, resulting in an estimated loss of 2 million visitors.
* 368 National Park Service sites also closed, losing 7 million visitors and around $14.2 million per day in tourism revenue.
* 20,000-30,000 foreign visa applications per day went unprocessed, as did an estimated total of 200,000 U.S. passport applications.
* Health, welfare, finance, and travel services for veterans were restricted.
* New Medicare applicants were turned away, and new patients at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center were not accepted.
* Furloughs at the Centers for Disease Control resulted in limited information regarding the spread of contagious diseases.
* Federal agencies managing over 20% over the total number of government contracts were affected.
So, in short (and I know short and simple is all you can understand), it means more people like yourselves doing without and losing more.
By the way, the rich corporations you love to defend because you all think (as you dream by the side of the road in your used 1987 Ford Taurus with the Bush bumper stick on it) that some day you will be one of those CEO's (and, therefore, benefit from your hard line now), will pull further away from you in wealth.
Furthermore, as they do so, they will gain more power in the Washington you naively think you can take over and push for more bills that push YOU further back into poverty and keep you in line.
I know what you're thinking. You're muttering to yourself, "To hell with you, you liberal commie. All you want is the government to take my hard-earned money and fill the pockets of welfare mothers who should put down the crack pipe and get a damn job. You only want to shower us with your socialist world-view and make our great country Jimmy Carter land all over again."
Sorry to inform you but that's not what the thinking, intelligent members of society want for the rest of you who are too stupid to understand when you're being taken. We want you and everyone else to benefit in this world, not just those who have nothing to worry about.
You have political power. Unfortunately, you are not smart enough to know how you and your power is being manipulated by people who have very little use for you outside of keeping you stupid, firing up your prejudices and voting for them because you're distracted by non-issues like gay marriage, immigration and other things that give you the opportunity to show anger and prejudice against your fellow Americans without feeling guilty about it.
What's that? I should go screw myself? Well, it's clear you won't listen to reason. Angry, ignorant people are kinda like that. And, yes, I know I shouldn't talk down to you, but your actions have had such dire consequences on my life and the lives of others - and your callous disregard for us so severe - that there's nothing you'll understand better than being insulted. You won't listen to reason. You won't put down your prejudices. You won't even TRY to gain a thorough understanding of the issues you say you know something about.
So there's very little left to do in my opinion than tell you what I think about you. You'll never learn - and that's unfortunate for the country, because you're not helping it, you're hurting it.
