Woman charged in Transgender assault.
Teonna Monae Brown, 18, was arrested and charged with first and second degree assault in the beating of 22-year-old Chrissy Lee Polis. A 14 year old accomplice was arrested and charged as a juvenile.
More over the jump
According to police records the two assaulted Ms. Polis over the use of the restroom.
Polis told The Baltimore Sun that before she was attacked she heard a teen say she was a man using the women's restroom. According to charging documents, a 14-year-old girl charged as a juvenile in the case told police that she and Brown fought with Polis over using the restroom.
In another story the woman, Vicky Thoms, who attempted to come to the aid of Ms. Polis was praised for trying to help.
Prosecutors are looking into the possibility of Hate Crime charges being filed in addition to the assault charges.
I found this quote from Vicky Thoms to be particularly worrysome though:
Afterward, a man behind the counter asked Thoms if she realized the person being beaten was not a woman and was transgendered.
"I told him, `No I didn't and I don't care,'" she said. "He said he worked with her and she had a smart mouth — in other words, she deserved it."
Does this mean what I think it does? I'd like to have further confirmation, but this sounds like a man who works at the McDonalds said the above.
