I was buried under a mountain of work AGAIN today but not so buried that I didn't eventually learn this lovely tidbit this afternoon! :D
And, how nice is it of him to keep the Countdown name so I can resurrect those faboo diary logos & even beg for new ones?! ;D It'll be like the diary series just took a really long hiatus. :) Probably about a month before the new gig begins, I'll begin a "countdown to Countdown to Keith @ CurrentTV" series so I can get in practice of doing 2 back - to - back diaries; be on the look out for more information!
It's time for "this day in history." On April 26, 1986, the world's worst nuclear accident occurred at the Chernobyl plant in the Soviet Union. An explosion and fire in the No. 4 reactor sent radioactivity into the atmosphere; at least 31 Soviets died immediately. Ugh, I remember that. The Soviet government did the whole "We don't need no stinkin' help" shtick, and lots of people died that didn't need to die.
Unfortunately, that item's about the only one worth noting for April 26, but I'll rebound in SPARK! :D Pat Robertson is at it again. How the spark does he still have a TV show?! What the hell's gonna be the fun in indulging in a nice big gooey hot fudge sundae if the mofo's gonna be good for you?! I think Rep. Paul Ryan's gone into the Chinese restaurant - ownership game. Here's an "AAAAAaaaaWWWWWwwwww!" moment from the animal kingdom! Here's a SPARKy item sure to elicit the "You kids get off my lawn!" response. Finally, if you've been dyin' to catch UFO museum action in Roswell, NM, well...
On with The Rachel Maddow Show!
"Expand the Electorate" - Do we really REALLY need to revisit FL 2000?! *&^%$#@! GWB won FL clearly in 2004. In 2008, the Dems had figured out how to win. I bet that ain't the case now! Again *&^%$#@! A whole lot of new voters were registered in that year. I bet that ain't gonna happen anymore!
New voters in FL in 2008 went overwhelmingly to President Obama. Now, in FL, well, voter registration ain't so easy anymore. If you want to help register voters in FL now, you have to register with the state in advance. You also have to learn some electronic voting shtick. Are those worse than those damn butterfly ballots & hanging chads?! Rachel thinks this action will end voter registration drives in FL. Poor people, minorities, etc. mainly register at these drives; these groups also voted for President Obama BIG TIME in 2008. Step #1 of President Obama's re - election big is to expand the electorate. OOPS! Adam Skaggs works for the Brennan Center for Justice. He thinks if this law passes, it'll immediately be challenged in court. Well, I'm not so sure how I feel about that. Does FL have a bat$hit SC like their bat$hit Governor? And, what if this mofo ends up in front of the Roberts SCOTUS?! THAT prospect should give you the heebie - jeebies!
Early voting would also be impacted by this law. You also can't change your address or your name under this potential new law & be able to vote on a "traditional" ballot. I think Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz mentioned this possibility when she was on the show last week!
"New England Patriots" - The term "abortion" could be changed to "feticide" in LA. LOVELY! *&^%$#@! How is Governor Gilligan feeling about that?!
Rachel & her peeps have been faboo about bringing to light about what bat$hit GOBPers are doing on the state level. However, in VT, their state Senate has passed single - payer health care. Wow... And, VT's Dem Governor will sign it.
"New England Patriots Part Deux" - $HIT! Maybe, I should consider moving east instead of west! Birkenstocks & all the Ben & Jerry's I want, too! ;D Governor Peter Shumlin of VT was on the phone with Rachel. Health care is a right & not a privilege?! GET THE GOBP ON THIS MEMO, STAT! ;D Yea, I know, not bloody likely.
Where VT is heading on the HCR realm will basically be Medicare for all. Huh, that has a familiar ring to it. Where have I heard that before?
OH YEA - THAT'S where I heard it.
"Is This Thing On?" - So, GOBP Congress critters are continuing to HEAR IT from their constituents about Rep. Paul Ryan's Dickensonian budget, yes? GOOD!
I wonder if said Congress critters are regretting that 1 week off every 2 weeks shtick now?! Rep. Ryan is having more town halls this week because he just loves to be booed, I guess. ;D These town hall crowds are bigger than the horrid summer 2009 ones?! SWEET!!!!!
A FL town hall in Orlando was...uh...active. ;D How 'bout that vet getting called a moron?! I hope said vet beat the snot outta that guy! The Kochtopus folk are not flummoxed by what's going on in those town halls; they are planning pay back.
Eugene Robinson gets to talk rowdy town halls & the Kochtopus - well, maybe not the Kochtopus. ;D I don't imagine the GOBP Congress critters had a sparkin' clue as to what kind of reception their constituents would give them after their Rep. Ryan votes; they probably thought they'd be greeted as liberators. ;D Rachel asked the million - dollar question. Can "establishment Dems" take this energy from these town halls into meaningful legislation & election results? I ain't holding my breath on that score.
Eugene also thinks President Obama might be "getting it" as far as voter anger; again, I ain't holding my breath.
"How the MidWest Was Won" - Recall energy is abounding in the land of Cheese Heads & pi$$ed off Brett Favre fans! ;D Conservative efforts to recall state Dems are about as successful as the Cubs making the playoffs.
"The War on Skool" - YES! I LOVE the Dana Carvey "Grumpy Old Man" shtick!!!!! Ah, back in the days when SNL was funny. OK, I'm gonna have to dig up more of these to put in comments. :D Governor Paul LePage wants to roll back child labor laws in Maine. What a guy!
Governor Snyder wants to cut back on the number of hours kids have to be in school. Governor Scotty just lurves the vouchers. Ya' know, all these GOBPers who are anti - education probably didn't do too well in school. I give you GWB, boys & girls!
