Today's GOP stands in the way of every vital shift in American social, economic and environmental strategy needed to reenergize and reshape Americas future. It has become the slave of every monied interest with a reason to protect their status quo.
Even when the Democrats had a wide majority in both houses plus control of the White House the GOP would not give any quarter. They still felt their mandate to obstruct was real and they used the fillibuster like never before.
I fear that until America has its Spring with millions taking to the street to demand reform of such basics as campaign finance, secure voting and an end to endless spending on the military, America's future and the future of our next generation does not look optimistic.
I hate to write these words as I am by nature optimistic.
Perhaps that next leadership needs to emerge from the generation which the GOP now seeks to disenfranchise, as they try to divide today's seniors and near seniors from the generation who they would give vouchers instead of Medicare. I was happy to see that backfire in the recent New York election.
It is this next generational group that have turned conventional wisdom in the Middle East on its head.
When is that going to happen here?
