Republicans play a game:
Let us say something outrageous.
Then let's pretend to reconsider and say "but, but we were not consulted".
Say "end medicare" then backtrack to "but, but you get vouchers".
Say "end social security" then backtrack to "but, but only on a voluntary basis".
Say "slash corporate taxes" then redress with "but, but this will encourage them to actually pay them in the first place".
Say "make the tax cuts permanent" offset this with "but, but revenues will increase"
Be sure to use such terms as socialism, ponzi schemes, trickle down, and deficit reduction at every turn.
Don't worry how crazy you will sound at first, by the time you backtrack it will sound moderate and well thought through because as sure as eggs are eggs some of the "moderate Dems" will have followed you whilst trying to triangulate the mythical middle.
You know Republicans are really good at this, let's start some senseless wars that the left oppose, then dump these same wars in their laps. Then the meme becomes now we are at war we must ensure a good outcome. Then the Republicans can complain about just how bad the wars are now being run.
There comes a time when enough is enough and the middle ground is what Republicans proposed in the 1980's, it is long past time to draw a line in the sand shifting to the middle has not worked.
It is time to throw a brick through that Overton window.
Wanting to privatize medicare and social security should be the nail in the coffin of the Republicans both now and in years to come, all the Democratic Party has to do is find the hammer.
