Workers leaflet a Greensboro, NC Verizon store (
CWA)
Back in late August, Verizon told its striking workers it would begin to bargain for real, and
the strike ended. But that didn't mean Verizon had dropped its demands for outrageous concessions, and in fact, more than a month later, many of those concession demands are still on the table. That's why it's important to keep the pressure on.
This remains the best pressure point:
According to Steve Early at Labor Notes, picketing of Verizon stores during the strike had an impact:
In a CWA phone briefing [...], strikers were told that their picketing at 1,000 [Verizon Wireless] stores had generated a flurry of calls from non-union workers wanting to organize. (According to the company’s numerous injunction requests, protests at the retail stores also sharply reduced sales at a number of stores.)
This Friday and Saturday, the Communications Workers of America are turning up the heat, making a big push to leaflet Verizon Wireless stores and Apple stores. You can join in by adopting a store near you and passing out leaflets. This isn't a picket, nobody's on strike—but people should know that Verizon still isn't doing the right thing by its workers despite its high profits and executive pay.
To join in and support Verizon workers in their fight to save middle-class jobs, find a store here, let CWA know you're adopting that store here, and print out leaflets for Verizon stores (PDF) or Apple stores (PDF).
