[Little Suzie Newsykins]
This week, I learned all about how to be an activist!
I saw this really amazing video about an evil warlord in central Africa.
It made me sad, and made me want to do something-- like call Congress, or the president, or tell other people about it!
Finally! We can make a difference and help bring evil Kony to justice!
Bbbut, then I started hearing grownups talk about the video:
[Pundit, I can do this part: "Clearly, it's fatally flawed because it refuses to address the entire history of Africa, colonialism, local governance, and the subtleties of carefully-worded UN diplomatic resolutions in 29-minutes or less, and furthermore . . ."]
[back to Suzie]
And, and then they talked about questionable financial issues with the nonprofit that created the video!
[Suzie now gets more clarity, happier]
And before long, they helped me realize that this whole campaign of "awareness" is just . . . pointless!
[aside] . . . unless you're in America's Most Wanted or the old west.
Then the grownups said even though this "slacktivism" doesn't do a thing, it actually does too much and is White-Man's-Burden-Colonialism all over again!
Wulll, I don't want to do anything wrong, so I pledge to help . . . by doing nothing at all!.
Which is why if anyone makes an "Assad 2012" video . . .
. . . I'll be watching The Bachelor and not some dangerous activist video about the Big Scary World the end!
