This is a short hear-say kind of diary; it is just rumor at this stage, and certainly sounds plausible enough; but I'd love some confirmation if any fellow Maineiacs are tuned in with corroborating information. Please dive below the orange Gordian Knot:
So, anyway, as the story goes, my good friend who recently moved up into mid-state Maine was having breakfast at a local breakfast spot, the favorite of some ranking GOP denizens. She overheard an exchange where the GOP minions were just absolutely stinkin' mad at Olympia Snowe's decision to bail before her election. Seems that she had met with that sterling role model for everything in life, our proud and illustrious governor Paul LePage, a few months prior to her public announcement. She reportedly decried the sorry state of relations between parties, and the state of insane teaparty gridlock that typifies today's congressional reality; and announced her plan of bailing from any further run in the Senate.
The 'govenah' took her intentions in stride, and recommended that she proceed with getting elected, then after a couple of months to announce her retirement; at which point the dogged govenah would sweep into action, naming a hand-picked GOP/Tea successor and planting this stooge into her seat for the next umpteen months of damage-inducing, free-for-all, no-premise-too-stupid, tea party fun.
The typically immoderate Ms.Snowe apparently said "no" to this proposed hijacking of the electoral process. If true, then Thank You, Olympia, with partial retraction of SOME of the things I've been saying about your past behavior (like those 'Tag-Team' cracks involving Susan).
I'd like to remember you for this most noble standing down, one which stands up for the voice of the Maine voter.
So, fellow travellers of Rt.1 and Rt.2, any confirmation?
