Tonight we're liveblogging primary results in four states: Connecticut (polls close at 8pm ET), Florida (7pm ET in most of the state, 8pm in the panhandle), Minnesota (9pm), Wisconsin (9pm). Our writeup of all the key federal and statewide races can be found
here.
Results: Connecticut | Florida | Minnesota | Wisconsin
4:21 PM PT (David Jarman): If you're wondering whether Florida will be issuing results before the polls in the Panhandle close, yes, they will, and not just in the House races but the Senate race (the only statewide race this year) too. In fact, we've got a decent number of Senate votes in the Republican primary already: with 1% reporting, Connie Mack IV is at 55, certainly enough to win but not awe-inspiring. Dave Weldon's at 24 and Mike McCalister is at 13.
4:23 PM PT (David Jarman): The AP isn't reporting anything yet in any of the House primaries we're interested in today, but Greg Giroux has been aggregating data from the various county websites in FL-07 (where there's a chairman-vs.-freshman member-on-member rumble in the GOP primary). He finds John Mica at 62% in Orange, 61% in Seminole, and 64% in Volusia.
4:28 PM PT (David Jarman): OK, now we're getting some House numbers from the AP, too. In FL-02, Al Lawson's out to a big lead, though that's with only about 6,000 votes in. It's Lawson 55, Leonard Bembry 27, and Alvin Peters 11. And in the GOP primary in FL-09, it looks like Alan Grayson's gaming the primary worked: Todd Long leads big there, with fully 9% reporting. Long is at 47, with John Quinones (whom Grayson wanted to avoid facing, given the district's large Puerto Rican population) at 31.
4:31 PM PT (David Jarman): I assume this isn't a race that anyone here has strong feelings about, but there's quite the pileup in the open GOP primary in FL-19 (to replace Mack), with about 20K votes reporting. Talk show host Trey Radel leads at 27, with Chauncey Goss and the previously-unheralded Byron Donalds both at 21, followed by Paige Kreegel at 16 and Gary Aubuchon at 13.
4:33 PM PT (David Jarman): Based on the first few thousand votes in the Dem primary in FL-26, we've got quite the dogfight there. Gloria Romero Roses is at 45, Joe Garcia is at 44, and mysterious plant candidate Lamar Sternad is at 9. A little further north, the Dem primary in FL-22 is going easily for Lois Frankel; she leads Kristin Jacobs 76-24 with 5,000 votes in.
4:36 PM PT (David Jarman): One other Republican primary of note is FL-03, where long-time Rep. Cliff Stearns looks to have the 'clown car' effect to thank for his continuing survival. He's only at 36, but still winning, with Ted Yoho at 27, James Jett at 26, and Steve Oelrich at 10. And, as you might have guessed, Robert Crowder's admirable attempt to primary Allen West from the left in the GOP primary in FL-18 is going nowhere; West is winning 84-16.
4:39 PM PT (David Jarman): Ah, that's better. We suddenly jumped up to 13% reporting in FL-26, and now Joe Garcia's got a substantial lead, ahead of Romero Roses 52-34. Also, early votes in FL-24 give a substantial edge to Dem incumbent Frederica Wilson, who leads Rudy Moise 69-31 in a race with an unusual multi-generational-African-American/Haitian-American battle line.
4:41 PM PT (David Jarman): Up to 12% reporting statewide, and Connie Mack has improved somewhat in the Senate GOP primary: he's at 62, with Dave Weldon at 19, Mike McCalister at 12, and Marielena Stuart (who?) at 7.
4:47 PM PT (David Jarman): Huh, the bag full of moderate votes must have just arrived at the office in FL-18. Allen West's lead over Robert Crowder just fell to 68-32. We're also seeing the first 20K votes in open FL-06; Club for Growth fave Ron DeSantis is in the lead in a crowded field at 39, followed by Fred Costello at 22, Craig Miller at 14, Bev Slough at 13, and Richard Clark at 9.
4:58 PM PT (David Jarman): By far the most interesting race in Florida so far is turning out to be FL-03, of all things. You might remember Cliff Stearns from launching the Planned Parenthood witch hunt of last year, but he's been around since 1988, usually quietly voting from the far-right. He's currently at only 36%, with 24% reporting now, and more worrisome, his nearest competitor, Ted Yoho, keeps gaining, now at 32%. (Nobody really paid much attention to Yoho, although he did seem to spend the most of Stearns's opponents. The two elected officials in the field, Jimmy Jett and Steve Oelrich, are further back at 16 each.) One Twitter observer, though, does point out that Stearns's base in Marion County (Ocala) is slow to report so far.
4:59 PM PT (David Jarman): One other thing to note about Stearns: he has over $2 million cash on hand still left sitting around. Seems to be the classic case of getting caught sleepwalking.
5:01 PM PT (David Jarman): We've got 42% reporting in the GOP primary in FL-07, and the numbers haven't budged from where they were an hour ago: John Mica is easily dispatching fellow member Sandy Adams, 62-38.
5:06 PM PT (David Jarman): With 21% reporting in the Dem primary in FL-22 (the open seat on the Gold Coast being left behind by Allen West's move), things have tightened up a bit; Lois Frankel leads Kristin Jacobs 64-36.
5:08 PM PT: Polls are now also closed in Connecticut.
5:09 PM PT (David Jarman): The first AP check mark of the night, or at least the first in a "competitive" race, goes to Allen West in the GOP primary in FL-18. He defeats Robert Crowder 72-28, with 21% reporting. Meanwhile, we're almost done in FL-19's GOP primary, though no call there. With 86% reporting, Trey Radel looks like he's on track to win, at 33, with Chauncey Goss at 19, Paige Kreegel at 17, and Bryon Donalds and Gary Aubuchon both at 15.
5:11 PM PT (David Jarman): And we've got an AP call in the 'biggest' race in Florida: Connie Mack IV wins the Senate GOP primary, with a whopping 59%. (Dave Weldon is at 21 and Mike McCalister at 13.)
5:16 PM PT (David Jarman): As we rack up the votes in Florida, most of the primaries are staying consistent. In the open seat GOP primary in FL-06, with 49% reporting, Ron DeSantis is still winning easily at 39% (with his nearest competition at 24%). And in FL-09, Todd Long is still winning the GOP primary over John Quinones, 47-28, with 74% reporting.
