Let me start off and mention that this is a "rant" from a Facebook friend of mine... I signed up to Facebook a few years ago after my 20th year high school reunion, you know, a great way to keep in touch with people you had forgot about 20 years ago. I guess there is a reason I lost touch with them. I grew up in a rural Colorado, needless to say most of my "old friends" are brainwashed republicans. Ugh, so for the next couple of years I've endured repug talking points ad nauseam. Fortunately, I have also "friended" some college friends and work colleague along the way to somewhat dilute the rebug drivel.
Checking my FB account today made me smile. Follow me below for my friend's rant.
I went to college with my FB friend, he is a mechanic and sculturer now (with a computer science degree).
My friend was replying to the following from one of his FB friends.
If by humanity you mean the mewling idiots demanding others pay their way through every aspect of their lives, then yeah, that's why I'm a Republican
Here is what he said.
No, I mean all of humanity.
I work hard. I am pretty intelligent. I make good money. I try to be a good person to others, despite being a faithless heathen. I pay my taxes. What does that amount to? Not a hill of beans in the end, because I am not someone who grubbed and scrambled my way up the financial ladder on the backs of others (who probably work harder than any politician or CEO ever has). I worry about my financial future in retirement ... and that just seems absurd with how many years I have been at the grindstone, and I am not even near the worst case scenario of hard workers who are doomed because they made a product with their hands and minds instead of getting fat off the hard work of others while I irresponsibly play monopoly with billions of dollars as a CEO, banker, politician, or other "good old boy" institution and then cry "bail out" when my careless management and spending crash the titanic into a glacier so obvious it is hard to imagine the recklessness not being intentional.
The big $ network is in control, they purchased our government for a song, and they bought both parties. If you think that the top 1-2% are in desperate need of a tax break, then you are deluded into thinking that they will help our economy with it rather than laugh all the way to the bank while they figure out how to spend that money overseas to increase profits and lower their labor costs in the US ... labor, BTW, is not just those blue collar jobs, but anything these days ... including what you do for a living.
The people in control, the people with REAL money and power, are in this game for themselves and try to always deal themselves the winning hand, regardless of the cost to the quality of life for everyone else and the planet.
Trying to blame social programs and the poor for this countries problems is absurd and brain damaged, but I love how republicans rally around this straw man idea that everyone else is a lazy piece of shit ... must be how they rationalize the victimization of what is left of their own humanity.
Most people want to work. Most people want some peace of mind that they will not be broke and homeless when they are 80. It seems fair to me that people who work should have some peace of mind. Instead, we get tossed scraps of bread crust while the extremely wealthy gorge themselves on our bones ... and that, my friend, is just about all that is left of the middle class ... bones.
The wealthy continue to destroy the education system, but ensure their children can attain good ones, because by what other means can you be well assured that your slave labor will continue for generations. Without education for our youth and social programs to help people get back on their feet, we will need more defense spending on tanks (rather than toilet seats) ... because one of these days, the backs of those that the wealthy stand on will break.
Kudos, I couldn't have said it better myself.
[UPDATE] Wow! Rec list! Thanks all... and I realize this rec is for my FB friend!
As for a follow up to his rant. A bit of false equivalence...
I just think it is important to attack both sides, otherwise people get the wrong idea. ^.^
