UPDATE 2: Please sign the petition asking President Obama to pardon Don Siegelman. (h/t HappyinNM)
Not to bring you down, or piss on your cornflakes, or crap in your punchbowl or anything, but I would like to call your attention to a couple of matters – just as a reminder of where we stand.
Don Siegelman was just given six and a half years in prison, fined $50, 000 dollars (just to rub salt in the wound I suppose), and ordered to complete 500 hours of 'community service' after completing the 6.5 years. Talk about adding insult to injury. No one with the power to do so lifted a finger to help him. No one on 'our team' would give him the time of day. This is an outrage. This is blatant political kangaroo-court justice. This is a new fucking low for America. And don't give me any shit about what he did. He did nothing. And anybody with two neurons to rub together knows it. His only crime was being an actual progressive Democrat...and he may well be the last.
Anybody who wants to justify this travesty can kiss my ass.
Where is Don Siegelman's pardon Mister President?
Please be reminded, if they can do this to Don, they can do anything to you or me.

These are just a couple of recent outrages plucked from an overflowing outrage hat. Please bear this in mind as you go on rooting for 'our team.'
Thank you, and peace out.

UPDATE: Look, I am obviously pissed right now. I think I have a right to be. Maybe I overemphasized the 'our team' thing, but they sure as hell have not helped. The Siegelman sentencing just happened - and it couldn't be any more alarming or egregious IMO. I'm not responsible for how this fiasco makes anyone look. That's their problem. If the President want's to look good, let him do something to make himself look good. Let him pardon Siegelman and overturn this blatant political injustice - and it would be a damned strong political statement if he would. So what if it makes conservative heads explode. It's about damned time for that.
I consider it my duty to ask him to pardon this innocent man...and to raise my voice in protest if he doesn't. There is more to the world than the Democratic Party or the coming election. There is such a thing as justice and we've gotten precious little of it. Torturers? Wall Street thieves? Frackers and polluters left to run wild? Persecution of activists? Where is the justice? I have every right to ask that.
