Along with the annual CPAC conference, the Value Voters Summit is always a good place to shine the spotlight on the black fetid soul of the modern GOP. And this year, with the GOP in a collective panic over Mitt Romney's ongoing implosion, has been especially illuminating. Highlights so far this year include Bryan Fischer's premature post-mortum on the Romney campaign, a standing ovation for an "ex-terrorist" who apparently made the whole thing up, Paul Ryan's abortion-themed attacks on Obama, Jan Brewer's ludicrous (even for her) defense of her loathsome profiling law and the usual hysterical nonsense from Michelle Bachmann. And, as I already diaried about yesterday, we had Gary Bauer going full on racist by claiming Obama's voters are all fraud and on welfare. Quite a show!
And now comes Rick Santorum to provide the cherry on the top. In a speech attacking supposed media bias against the GOP, the Dog Humper lit slip some unintentional honesty and confirmed something we've long suspected about the modern GOP:
"We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country," Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, told the audience at the Omni Shoreham hotel, "We will never have the elite, smart people on our side."
Yep, you heard it folks. Santorum has just admitted that smart people have no place in the GOP. Henceforth, we can officially unveil this slogan:
GOP: Party for Dumbshits
Oh yeah and Santorum also had this to say about the Ron Paul libertarian types:
Santorum also cirticized the libertarian wing of the Republican party for not supporting what he sees as the pillars of conservatism: religion and family.
"When it comes to conservatism libertarian types can say, oh, well you know, we don't want to talk about social issues," Santorum said. "Without the church and the family, there is no conservative movement, there is no basic values of America."
If you want to piss off the already ornery Paulists, Ricky, mission accomplished.
And Santorum also let Mitt Romney know that he's got his back over Mitt's galactic Libyan fuckup earlier this week. I'm sure Mitt appreciates it.
Rick Santorum: Truly the gift that keeps on giving. Just like the Value Voters Summitt.
11:21 AM PT: And the hilarity just keeps on coming. Here's the One Armed Bandit King himself, William Bennett, adding to the list of conservatives who want the media to "LEAVE MITT ROMNEY ALONE!!!"
9:29 PM PT: Rec list and a shout out on the front page! Thanks folks. And for more whackiness from the Value Voters Summitt, we get several GOP bigwigs (including Romney himself, as well as Tony Perkins and Eric "Weasel Boy" Cantor") using the brief Democratic convention fight over the use of "God" in the party platform to imply that the Dems are against God and religion.
Yep, no place for smart people in this madhouse.
