About 8:30 AM today, CBS's Norah O'Donnell interviewed Oklahoma's Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb about the devastation and disaster suffered in his state.
O'DONNELL: Are you getting everything you need from the Federal Government?
LAMB: We are. I was with the governor yesterday when she talked to the President. I was with the Governor yesterday when she made the request from FEMA. Everything the Governor has requested, Oklahoma has received.
This occurred at 8:30 AM this morning, less than 24 hours after the tornado struck at 3PM the previous day. The state of OK had already received everything they had asked for from the government.
O'Donnell's first instinct was to ask whether Oklahoma's requests for assistance had been acknowledged. Implicit in her question is the assumption that this is the expectation by the state of what the Federal Government should do, and inquiring as to whether the government was fulfilling its obligations to its citizenry.
The LT. Gov. assures her that yes, indeed the government is taking care of Oklahomans.
Not a word about finding ways to pay for it by cutting other equally important parts of the budget. Unlike the Senator from his own state.
Go to 2:50 to see the moment:
About an hour later the President spoke to the residents of Moore, and the nation. (Apparently someone had informed the President of the disaster).
“As a nation our full focus right now is on the urgent work of rescue.
“The people of Moore should know that their country will remain on the ground, there for them, beside them as long as it takes.
“There are empty spaces where there used to be living rooms and bedroom and classrooms and in time we will need to refill those spaces with laughter, community. We don’t yet know the full extent of the damage.
“If there is hope to hold onto to, not just in Oklahoma but around the country, its knowledge that the good people there in Oklahoma are better prepared for this type of storm than most and what they can be certain of is that Americans from every corner of this country will be right there with them.
“We’ve seen that spirit in Joplin, Tuscaloosa, we say that spirit in Boston, Breezy Point and that’s what the people of Oklahoma are going to need right now.”
Way to marginalize the idiot Senator from Oklahoma!
