No bucket up yet today so I am assuming Billybush is not doing a butterfly diary this Sunday. Here's a mostly empty bucket in it's place.
The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note of any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.

It is too soon to say for certain but it looks like today might be the third day in a row at our place without any rain (a few drops fell yesterday but not enough to get anything wet). Breezy, overcast, and surprisingly 'cool' (currently 84) for Tallahassee in August.
Observations for today:
Volunteer Chive is flowering in one of my Aloe pots. This is a testament as to how easy it is to transport seeds. The chives grew in my garden in Illinois and frequently grew in pots left outdoors in the summer. The Aloe has been moved to a new pot (it was shipped here bare root) so the seed must have been attached to the root.
A Ruellia is also flowering in the front yard.
Hatchling Anolis carolinensis on the deck and young Eumeces skink (probably Eumeces laticeps) seen on the pool deck. Southern Leopard frogs seem to have abandoned the swimming pool in the wet weather - I surprised one in the (rather weedy) back yard this AM
Zebra Longwings visiting flowers regularly. I saw sort of large butterfly on the edge of the pool - probably some kind of Fritillary. I'm not much of a Lepidopterist (in fact it is safe to say that I know less about Leps than any of the other major insect orders).
Turkey Vulture flying over the lake. Numerous great egrets visible as well as a single Anhinga and a Belted Kingfisher.
General observation - a lot more stuff is seen when it's not raining.
Please fill the bucket with your own observations
"Green Diary Rescue" is Back!
After a hiatus of over 1 1/2 years, Meteor Blades has revived his excellent series. As MB explained, this weekly diary is a "round-up with excerpts and links... of the hard work so many Kossacks put into bringing matters of environmental concern to the community... I'll be starting out with some commentary of my own on an issue related to the environment, a word I take in its broadest meaning."
"Green Diary Rescue" will be posted every Saturday at 1:00 pm Pacific Time on the Daily Kos front page. Be sure to recommend and comment in the diary.
