Now if you could only erase the nation's memories of that guy.
Every time we hear from Jeb Bush, I feel icky inside. There has got to be a scientific name for
this phenomenon.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) opened up about a potential 2016 run and his mother's comments putting down the idea of a presidential campaign.
In April 2013, the former first lady said "we've had enough Bushes" in the White House, brushing aside the idea of Jeb running for president. Barbara Bush said "there are people out there" who are qualified for the position outside of her own family.
When asked about the comments, Jeb Bush said "she promised me she wouldn't keep saying this."
When even your own mom thinks the nation has seen enough of your family, that's a fairly good sign the nation has probably seen enough of your family. But she made a nice promise to Jeb that she would shut up about that, which is sweet of her.
"What can I tell you? All I can say is we all have mothers, right?" he said. "She is totally liberated, and God bless her."
See there, that's the
ick. Liberated? Liberated, so God bless her? How wonderfully condescending. Ha ha, she is so liberated, saying things the menfolk don't like.
There are some people in the world who just set off your ick detector. Reince would be the currently obvious one. Steve Stockman? Pfft, you could tell me tomorrow he'd just been busted for running a meth lab, I wouldn't blink. Jeb? Hmm.
Jeb tries very hard to be the smarter Bush, and everyone says he is the smarter Bush, and every time they say that I remember that "smart" is graded on a hell of a curve, in this crowd, and wonder just what it is about certain people that allows them to thrive in spite of a personal anti-charisma that makes them damn grating to even listen to, much less take seriously. Different people have their radars calibrated to different things, I suppose.
