Charlie Crist (D. FL) has a pretty good list on his campaign website about why Governor Rick Scott (R. FL) can't be allowed a second term:
1. He doesn’t fight for the middle class. He’s expanded tax cuts to special interests and corporations, while hiding the fact that he raised taxes on the middle class. He won’t fight to grow our economy from the middle class out.
2. He cut K-12 education by $1 billion. Scott decimated higher education by $300 million, and cut Bright Futures scholarships by 20 percent.
3. He denied health care to 1 million Floridians. Scott failed to expand health care, costing our state $51 billion and 70,000 jobs. He also supports a plan that would force another million Floridians off their own private health insurance.
4. He defrauded taxpayers. While he made millions, the company Scott founded and ran was forced to pay $1.7 billion in the largest Medicare fraud settlement in U.S. history at the time. He refused to answer questions from federal investigators, pleading the 5th amendment 75 times.
5. He doesn’t fight for your democratic right to vote. Scott tried to purge 182,000 people from Florida voter rolls — including war veterans — an act the courts have ruled unconstitutional. He slashed early voting & won’t let students at the University of Florida vote on campus.
6. He wants to make getting an abortion a crime. Scott wants to overturn Roe v. Wade. He’s signed anti-choice legislation, including requiring mandatory ultrasounds, then celebrated the intrusive laws.
7. He doesn’t embrace minority communities. Scott supports Arizona-style immigration policies, which would racially profile Floridians.
8. He couldn’t care less if you sit in traffic. Scott rejected high speed rail, costing us $2.4 billion in new infrastructure and jobs.
9. He doesn’t believe in equality. Scott does not believe in marriage equality. He refused to support legislation to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment — a law major Florida companies want him to support. He won’t say where he stands on equal pay for equal work.
10. He doesn’t believe in science or the environment. Scott refuses to accept the science behind climate change — ignoring the dangerous ramifications for Florida. His budgets have gutted historic funding for Everglades Restoration and Forever Florida, the state’s critically acclaimed program for buying sensitive lands.
11. He opposes a living wage and thinks $7.93 an hour is just fine for Florida families. Scott has said raising the minimum wage makes him “cringe” — it’s not entirely clear he supports the existence of a minimum wage at all.
12. He sells our state to the highest bidder. Just ask Sheldon Adelson, or Heritage Insurance, or any of the countless other corporations who’ve contributed to his campaign and received state contracts in return. He’s even tried to sell off land owned by the taxpayers.
13. He doesn’t understand our problems. Scott can’t relate — and he doesn’t care to try. The Tin Man has no heart.
