Today's source material:
Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID), who you may recall was one of the few congressional Republicans to abstain from re-electing John Boehner House Speaker in 2013, is now officially running for Majority Leader.
"I want a House Leadership team that reflects the best of our conference," he said in a statement on Friday. “A leadership team that can bring the Republican conference together. A leadership team that can help unite and grow our party. Americans don’t believe their leaders in Washington are listening and now is the time to change that.”
The natives approve, because every other Republican is really just a Dimmocrat-appeasing quisling. As you'll see below the fold.
In the end, Labrador running for this spot, is nothing but a show. The GOPe already knows McCarthy's going to win the spot.
McCarthy's already assuring the Chamber of Commerce their money is still well spent, and it will be business as usual...errr full speed on amnesty as soon as he's elected to the position.
Amnesty is the worst thing in the world, since we're not talking about Obamacare anymore!
The fact of the matter, is that anyone that would have been anything BUT a yes man for Boehner was threatened with being completely frozen out of anything within the House, to get them to back down and not run for the position.
You know it, I know it and everyone in the House with an (R) next to their name knows it.
We can talk all we want about Labrador being more Conservative than McCarthy, in the end, if/when amnesty comes to a vote, BOTH of them will vote for it. Count on it.
Amnesty is the worst thing in the world, since we're not talking about Cliven Bundy anymore!
The House Speaker shouldn't be about partisan politicking. It should be about performing effectively and efficiently against a set of social and economic specifications. This free-for-all, be all you can be political hedonism is not good for the US. The Democrats voted for Obamacare en masse even though it costs many of them their jobs. That's cohesion. You won't find Republicans voting en masse if the vote isn't popular. Mediocre Republicans need to step aside, stop playing 'safe' politics, or find some spine and save this country. The Democrats have almost ruined it for all of us. Obama's mistakes are legion and you don't notice many Democrats complaining about it. Guilt by shared values. DC seems to think pretty highly of itself, maybe it's time for them to come up with the ideas that merit the conceit.
Gosh, if only Republicans would vote together on stuff, like their bazillion votes to eliminate Obamacare. Only THEN would they be voting together, like they always do.
There are only two things that can possibly save Washington at this point.
1) Forced, Constitutionally mandated Congressional Term Limits.
Or
2) Burn the place to the ground and start over.
Or 3) get rid of crazy people like Raul Labrador. And Kevin McCarthy.
Nothing could save Washington at this point. Our entire constitutional order and system has proven flawed, at least if your goal is anything besides the advancement of social liberalism or social democracy. Term limits haven't improved the presidency, and they haven't improved the state legislatures with them much, if at all. If anything, they make it worse because every once in a while a decent human being manages to get elected to Congress, and that happens less often than term limits proposals.
Yeah, democracy no longer works! No wonder you guys admire Vladmir Putin so much.
Raul Labrador (R-ID) is Running for House Majority Leader
...Labrador is a REAL REPUBLICAN - so you know self-serving establishment Repub-o-cRAT boehner will do everything possible to block him.
Those bastards will block him ... by VOTING FOR SOMEONE ELSE!
Yeah, he's a REAL Republican supporter of amnesty. So is McCarthy
Amnesty is the worst thing in the world, since we're not talking about Benghazi anymore!
When it all boils down, nothing but amnesty matters. If they do amnesty, it's the end of America as you and I and everyone else that's over 20 knows it.
So, given that reality, there is no difference between the two. Say for example, McCarthy is in favor of increased background checks on firearm purchases, and Labrador isn't.
If they both push to pass amnesty, more background checks on gun purchases won't matter because it's only a matter of a few election cycles and the Dims will have such huge majorities in Congress, they'll be able to gut the 2nd Amendment entirely.
Nothing but amnesty matters, because we're not talking about whatever Fox News decided was worse than Hitler last week!
I'm not sure I hold a lot of trust in any representative from California, whether that representative be Republican, Democrat, Independent, or none of the above....
Yeah. California is too successful. It's full of "scientists", and "universities", and "Hollywood", and "gay people", and "brown people", and "successful world-changing entrepreneurs", and "marijuana", and "Tesla". On the other hand, this state's resident crazy person is Darrel Issa, which used to matter a lot more when Benghazi was a thing that Republicans cared about.
The end result here doesn't matter. Both would-be replacements for Cantor are big supporters of amnesty. The GOPe will never willingly give up any power position in the House.
So true! Republicans will never willingly give up any power position in the House. Astute political analysis there! I was all like, "political parties love always give up power willingly", and then BAM I was hit by a brick wall of TRUTH.
Good news, though! You need allies to strip these assholes of power, us Democrats are always willing to lend a hand.
Raul is slightly better than Kevin on immigration, and a lot better on almost everything else. There is only 1 choice if these are the options. It is a start and se should demand it as we work to continue make the reforms needed to get conservatives elected.
Reforms? You mean the things called "getting more votes"? Or the "Vladimir Putin is dreamy and so is his oligarchy" thing?
